For years, some people have been asking, “When is Smallville going to end? Isn’t he Superman yet?” Well, the series ending is now in sight. But who’s decision was it?
When Smallville began, it revolved around Clark Kent (Tom Welling), a high school student who was discovering his super powers. As time has gone on, he’s learned how to use his abilities and is now balancing his heroics with his work at the Daily Plant newspaper. The show’s current cast includes Allison Mack, Callum Blue, Cassidy Freeman, Erica Durance, and Justin Hartley.
Last season, The CW network moved Smallville from its usual Thursday night timeslot to Fridays. The ratings understandably dropped quite a bit but the network still renewed the show for a 10th season. The renewal had supposedly been hinging on whether or not Welling wanted to keep doing the series.
The decision has now been made that season 10 will be the show’s last. The network was supposed to make an official announcement at the upfronts but Welling jumped the gun and told HollywoodLife at an event on Tuesday night. The actor also reflected on what he’s learned by playing Clark Kent for so long. He said, “Once you think you have perfected things, you’ve got to keep practicing. There is always something to learn! It works for me and it will work for others.”

It remains to be seen who made the decision to end the show. Did the network decide to cancel it or was the choice made on the production side? Unless Welling (who’s now 33-years-old) decided that he’d had enough, it likely comes down to a mixture of the two and simple economics. The show will have been around for 10 seasons, has gotten more expensive to produce, and doesn’t bring as much ad revenue anymore.
On top of that, there are certainly more than enough episodes to keep the show running in syndication for a long time. By the end of the show’s run, there will be enough installments for a station to play once a day for seven months without repeating.
By announcing the ending a year in advance, the network can promote Smallville’s season 10 as the last and the producers will have ample time to plan how they want to wrap things up.

Hello, im Kenneth from Holland. I just wachted all 10 seasons in like 6 weeks. ( watched the last episode this evening) I’m very sad this show has come to it’s end, however they leave so many things open… Lex turning into the president… Do Lois and Clark get kids? How about Chloe and Oliver and there kid. After Heroes I thought there was nothing interresting, untill a friend of my told me I need to watch Smallville, so after a couple of years i finally did, im hooked and now this good show ends aswell. I am very upset that they r cancelling the show. Like someone said it is true they haven’t even called him Superman yet. I have followed this show all 10 seasons myself and to end it this way is totally wrong. To think he has not got rid of evil and has not battled Lex to his fullest. I just saw the last episode. Great ending only i think they should have made another episode after that were we saw him for real as the “Superman” we all hoped he would be for 10 seasons long. I’ve waited for 10 seasons not to see him for only 2 minutes in his famous suit. So sad to see it end this way but i was still a great journey.

there is alot to look forward to and they should continue a few more seasons say like a season 15 or 16. season 10 may be and ending but also a new beginning there is still part of the destiny to walk god amongst men and the fight with enemy lex luthor is not over he has yet to battle darkseid this series should not end i always look forward to watching and waiting impatiently for new episodes online
I agree there should be a smallville season 15 or 16 and i too look forward to watching smallville every week so and Superman hasn’t battled darkseid yet in his real body in his own body i’ve been watching the show since season 1 this show is a terrific show
After watching this show for 10 years now, I’m actually happy this was the end. I have been a HUGE fan of the Superman character for 23 of my 27 years now and I’m glad they are passing this “rock” to someone else. Tom Welling have done a great job, showing us how Clark Kent finally became Superman by accepting his true destiny. The season final can only be described by 1 word: “OMFG!!”. i think this is a great show and this is also one of the shows i look forward to watch during the week… if they dont continue im going to get so bored that im going to die during the weekend…. THEY HAVE TO CONTINUE THE SHOW!!!

I am sad to see it end. I looked forward to seeing the show every Friday night. Would love to see a season 11.
i love smallville is so great a tv show ! i hope they stil continue to make some more seasons after all it’s just started ….
i think they jump to much in a episode some time there is the greatest action then u looking forward to next episode then it sucks but none the less i think its going to be better i followed smallville from season 1 i watched season 1 to 5 one time in about 1 week its very interresting to follow up on the tv show good luck !!! greetings from denmark
I’m really SOOO not in the mood for ‘the last episode’. After that moment it will never be the same, when you’ve seen the end, it looses that mysterious aspect what we love about it. It all just stops. Probably I will watch the entire serie all over again, but then in your backmind you just know what’s gonna happen. And never, never…NEVER you can bike home thinking: Oh I’m SOOO in the mood for that new episode next week, what will happen this time?
