CBS launched eight new scripted shows during the regular 2019-20 television season and cancelled just three of them. How will their new programming do in the ratings for the 2020-21 season? How will the delays caused by the pandemic affect decisions when it comes time for the network to renew? Stay tuned.
CBS shows this season (so far): 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, All Rise, The Amazing Race, Big Brother, Blue Bloods, Bob ♥ Abishola, B Positive, Bull, Clarice, The Equalizer, FBI, The FBI Declassified, FBI: Most Wanted, House Calls with Dr. Phil, Kids Say the Darndest Things, Love Island, MacGyver, Magnum PI, Manhunt, Mom, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, The Neighborhood, One Day at a Time, SEAL Team, Secret Celebrity Renovation, Star Trek: Discovery, SWAT, Tough As Nails, The Unicorn, United States of Al, and Young Sheldon.
There’s lots of data that CBS execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing so far.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live+ same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Older viewers also matter but younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach. Delayed viewing matters more and more these days (if commercials are watched) but live viewing is still advertisers’ ideal.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
Renewed: NCIS, Young Sheldon, Blue Bloods, Magnum PI, NCIS: Los Angeles, Bull, MacGyver, SEAL Team, SWAT!
Cancelled: B Positive, All Rise, Clarice, The Unicorn.
Look Forward Macgver, NCIS + Los Angeles so good crime shows, Seal Team, Bull, Call me Kat so funny and enjoy it from The Big Bang theory actress sheldon girlfriend on Fox tv channel i love it.
I love S.W.A.T very much, and I’am sad to see that season 4 has bad ratings and I don’t know why.. it’s well written drama, it has everything, cast is amazing.. CBS renewed The Equalizer and for me it’s an okey drama but honestly it’s nothing special.. I’am just scared that S.W.A.T will not get another season..
STOP with all the coronavirus storylines We all know it’s going on we watch FICTIONAL T.V for a reason, to escape reality for a bit.
Well, it will take some time for a show to beat Queen L’s new one unless she tanks in the next 2-3 weeks.
It will tank most new shows start off good then they go down hill after a month
We fans of Hawaii five0 wants our favorite and the best show of the time back
Me too love Hawaii five-0 season before announce it going be final season last year big bummer found out month right about to start. But anyway Bull, Seal team, Macgver, Bob hearts Abisola so funny good shows on that channel now love it.
I think you are rating the shows with the wrong age groups. The people watching these shows, in my opinion, are the 40-75 year olds.
Most young people are on their cell phones, computers or watching online.
I agree
The CBS execs are ruining the brand. The socio-political slant they’ve introduced this season has ruined many shows that used to be great. But, hey, don’t trust my opinion, just look at the ratings.
They are really ruined the brand, they’ve been doing it for the last two years. So much that a lot of people are just leaving the network and never coming back. I hope They keep doing it. Because one point they’re not gonna have 1/3 of the viewers if they keep up this crap. I’m rooting for the network to keep doing it because nothing or very little is Watchable anymore.
Young Sheldon, is barely winning and the show needed to step up or else it would het the axe
SWAT FOR LIFE
These ratings are a disgrace. CBS needs Moonves back. These shows are a joke with the ratings to match.
Ncis New Orleans need to go up so good crime such a great show. Ncis la was good too premiere love them both. Worth watching.
I really like the new programming like picard and star trek discovery as well as I picked up the series seal team which I’ve been binge watching. I’m very happy that It got picked up for a 4 season good job guys!
This is a horrible network now! There’s nothing on just spinoffs and just horribly socially acceptable programming! It’s terrible how this network has gone down the tubes, The new standard is not what the people want but what is socially acceptable that is being forced down our throat’s. This is so sad sad sad sad I will not be watching any programming on CBS network.
I have always enjoyed Young Sheldon and continue to do so. Same with Mom, although I have seen the show pulling away from the Christy character for some time and have never understood why? This year she is totally gone which is a loss for the show. In addition, it seems like they are leaving the other 2 actresses out in favor of Jamie Presley and the chubby one from 3rd Rock–who was hilarious in the first few episodes but the writing for her has lost its edge lately. Anyway, I miss the other 2 who barely speak and don’t… Read more »
Never watch them
