The daytime soaps are the latest television properties to shut down filming in face of the coronavirus. This has soap fans wondering just how long their soaps will remain on the air before episodes run out.
Days of Our Lives is the last of the soaps to announced a shutdown, per Deadline. The soap was already on a planned two-week hiatus, but now that hiatus has been extended. Fans of that series have nothing to worry about though. Days has enough episodes for the soap to continue airing on NBC through October.
As for General Hospital, Young and the Restless, and The Bold and the Beautiful, those soaps have a lot fewer episodes in the can. TV Line reported that the ABC soap has enough episodes already taped to keep the series on the air through the end of May.
As for the two CBS soaps, they have enough episodes to last four to six weeks. That means they will run out of episodes in early May.
At this time, the shut down is for at least two weeks. Those behind the soaps are monitoring reports so, a specific date to resume to production is up in the air.
What do you think? Are you a daytime soap fan? What will you watch if they are taken off the air?
There is nothing else to watch except ad shows and reruns, reruns! I have watched General Hospital since it began, please do not take it off! We miss our soaps, All My Children and One Life to live. That was a big loss for alot of us. We understand about the Virus but we will be expecting to see our shows back on as soon as possible. Thank you
There are plenty of old soaps now gone that you could rerun, if not early episodes of the four that are still on. I truly love soaps, there’s nothing that could replace them!
Love Days! Please don’t cancel it.
I have been watching General Hospital 57 years. That’s right since the very first episode. Our problem is that local reports from our politions take over at least half or more of the show. Soaps have hard enough time keeping their rating up, i am so afraid this could really damage their chances of staying on the air. Even my husband is hooked on General Hospital since he retired.
Yes I am a huge fan wish they could keep going on but understand why not possible ,,Hope they will return
I love GH and Days so I’m hoping they will air the episodes that got overlooked for the president impeachment stuff they was interrupted for weeks.
I love the Young and the Restless have watched it for over 30 years and most of my other shows are on CBS as well.
I do love my shows but understanding what we all must do to combat this virus is a must on everyone’s part.
I don’t like what is happening on Days. I didn’t like how they jump forward one year. Also what they did to Gina, Steve and Chad. Just my thoughts.
I think the fans will watch old episodes or one of the shopping channels. We cant do anything about it. If you have many channels or Netflix, you have a lot of choices. I could watch The Originals or The Vampire Diaries.
Being homebound it would follow that a measure of mental discarding should continue; regarding what works for you.
I think we’ll get thru it. LOL, kinda like when they take the soap off for all those ridiculous senate hearing, etc. or the Olympics! May then they can show us ones that were preempted!
I have missed 3 days of the show due to Trump on air. Wish the soaps had another channel to be on without interruptions.
If the soaps are not aired, I won’t watch anything. Maybe I’ll take time to read some books.
I guess once they run out of new episodes they can start showing their soaps from their beginning again or bring back some of their networks canceled soaps and show them from the very start.
Days of Our Lives has been taping 8 months in advance for a while now, so they shouldn’t miss any episodes. The other three are probably between a month – 6 weeks in advance, but given the recent pre-emptions resulting from the ImOrangement trial they’re at least a week behind as it is.
I HOPE THEY KEEP DAYS IT’S MORE IMPORTANT TO ME
