As it stands right now, President Tom Kirkman is stepping down tonight. ABC has cancelled the Designated Survivor TV show so there won’t be a third season on the alphabet network. However, there are efforts afoot to find the series a new home. Would you watch Designated Survivor on another channel?
A political thriller, Designated Survivor stars Kiefer Sutherland, Natascha McElhone, Adan Canto, LaMonica Garrett, Kal Penn, Maggie Q, Malik Yoba, Paulo Costanzo, Zoe McLellan, Ben Lawson, Tanner Buchanan, and Mckenna Grace. The conspiracy drama series centers on Tom Kirkman (Sutherland). After an attack on Capitol Hill wipes out the line of succession, this HUD Secretary becomes President of the United States. In Designated Survivor, season two, President Kirkman is on the hunt for the terrorists who destroyed the Capitol, even as he handles the daily Oval Office crises.
The Designated Survivor series debuted in September 2016 to very strong ratings but the numbers fell over the course of the first season. It ended up averaging a 1.25 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.84 million viewers — about half the ratings of the series premiere. The series could have been cancelled but ABC gave it another chance and ordered a second season.
Season two got off to a decent start but the ratings quickly dropped and have kept on falling. The second season is currently averaging a 0.71 demo rating with 3.95 million. To no surprise, ABC cancelled Designated Survivor last week.
There has been talk that the show’s producer, eOne, is shopping the series to other outlets. Netflix is considering picking up the series but that option is not without its challenges.
Moving a show to a new outlet is an expensive and risky prospect since there’s no guarantee that fans of a cancelled show will follow the series to its new home.
What do you think? Would you follow Designated Survivor to a new channel or streaming service? Would you watch season three elsewhere?
Yes I would follow the show to a different network. My wife and I like the show.
Designated Survivor and Timeless are my favorite shows. Intelligent yet suspenseful. Great acting and writing, with realistic characters that I care about and can relate to (yes, even Lyor). Would gladly follow these shows to Netflix (hint, hint) or another network if that should come to pass.
Yes, I would follow This show to another channel. I wish Tom Kirkman was our real President! The writing is so smart and crisp, I will miss it if it doesn’t come back. There isn’t another show like it. Bring it back!!!!!
I agree with you George
I would follow Tom Kirkman anywhere! Okay, maybe not anywhere, but certainly to any other network the show might land on.
I am so sick of advertisers only considering the 18-49 age group when rating a show. They could care less about the “older” group, who in turn buy their products like Lexus, etc – I don’t know too many kids driving around in a $50,000.00 car. Designated Survivor should not be cancelled. It has a great mature story line – that is why it is probably being cancelled!!
SAVE THIS SHOW!!!! It’s terrific, with good plots and characters.
Best show on television, acting & story lines are excellent. Don’t cancel. I introduced this show to 17 people who all watch it & love it.
It’sone Of the very best shows on television. great acting and story lines are excellent.
I do hope it gets picked up by another channel. One of the best shows on TV. There’s so much other rubbish on TV – cancel one of those shows instead.
My favorite show. Please reconsider cancelling!
This is one of my favorite shows. Lots of action, great acting and storyline.
I’d watch this show anywhere but i think it should stay on ABC. I love this show. My husband and I had 19 shows to watch throughout the week and this one was always the one I looked forward to the most. We tried to watch shows in order but I’d always ask to watch this one first because it was my favorite one. Please save it.
Most definitely, it would be a great gain for any channel and maybe then ABC would do some in house checking on why all the good shows get axed and they keep the ridiculous ones, love ABC but getting very frustrated with their poor decisions.
I would absolutely watch this show on any channel, but would prefer it stay on ABC…..this is one of the best shows on television and should not be cancelled. There are so many ridiculous shows and n that I would never watch, cancel one them instead. By the way channel 7/ABC, feel the same way about the Middle,, really disappointed this .station
What sadness. This is a very good show. Can’t believe it’s cancelled. Ratings aren’t everything you know. Some people really enjoy it. Think again please!!!
