ABC quietly unveiled a new reality series on Tuesday night. Like the network’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition series, Find My Family had audience members reaching for the tissues by the box. But, more importantly for the show’s future, how did it do in the ratings?
Hosted by Tim Green and Lisa Joyner, Find My Family helps people reconnect with family members after being separated for many years. The emotional reunions take place on-camera and in front of a place known as the “Family Tree.”
Following the performance finale of Dancing with the Stars, the premiere of Family attracted 12.76 million viewers and a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Those numbers look okay on their own but its significant that the series lost about 40% of its lead-in audience. ABC can’t be happy about that.
The real test will be next Monday’s broadcast though. Family won’t have the powerful Dancing lead-in and will expand to one hour.
What do you think? Is Find My Family worth watching or should ABC cut this series short? Cancel or keep it?

I was really looking forward to this program each week, when it disappeared. Please bring it back. It is one of the best reality shows that I have seen. Please bring it back!!!
Melody,If you could go to the main milatary base where they keep all records you may find more information,my son knows alot about navy, i will ask him where to go or write or call. he lives in another state. keep the faith, margo
Thanks Margo- I started an e-mail to you but not sure if I completed it. I appreciate your suggestions. Unfortunately I have researched and the station where my dad was has been closed and moved since 1956-’58. I have crossed with reunion people and left messages but no reply. I may have to hire a professional. His name is very common and I know I am running out of time. I’ll try to be patient! Thanks again. If you or your son have any suggestions, please let me know.
I am in my mid-fifties & am trying to locate my bio-dad who went off to war in 1953. This series brought tears to my eyes & gave me hope that I can find my Dad. I am the middle of 7 children & was told at 40 that I had a different father. PLEASE, PLEASE don’t take this show off the air. In fact, I challenge the investigators to help find my Father. When he came back for my mother and saw me, he knew. Although my mother had remarried my siblings father-MY FATHER saw & met them &… Read more »
I cannot believe it has already been taken off the air? I submitted a very long and very detailed application to the show for my husband…I was hoping that finally there was someone that could possibly help him find his roots or to see a resemblance maybe in another. To find out important medical information, etc. It’s always been too involved to search on our own or too costly. Now I understand why we never heard back…not even to acknowledge that they even received our personal information….I think it should be given another chance. I am sure I am one… Read more »
It is me again Margo, People do not know the pain a birthmother goes through, until she finds her child.I will be 65 , I believe I was 50 when I found Susan. Sure had problems because of this. I went threw State where she was born, took a couple months, depending on the state tho, rules are different. God Bless, Margo
Since the consensus is that ABC has truly cancelled the show, I am going to pursue the search for the half sib I have never met. The contract I signed with ABC is null and void. Go ahead and try to sue me for a million dollars. I’m angry. You played with peoples’ emotions. In the face of 31 year old son Jason’s fatal car accident, I need to seek out family. So, ABC go ahead and take me to court. You bailed. I didn’t.
This was a great show, what a shame that it was cancelled, a truly touching show that was enjoyed by many. What a disappointment! Please bring it back~

Just as I was really getting into the series, it was cancelled. I had told several people about it and they had started watching.

Please bring the show back. This is a show that is needed to help people find their long lost relatives. I am one of the people who sent in an application to find my daughter. The last time I saw her was when she was 2 years old and she in her mid 30’s now. People just cannot afford to hire a lawyer to find a lost family member and this show is a godsin. You have helped so many people and can help even more. This show reminds me of Home Makeover. They help people that have given back… Read more »
