ABC quietly unveiled a new reality series on Tuesday night. Like the network’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition series, Find My Family had audience members reaching for the tissues by the box. But, more importantly for the show’s future, how did it do in the ratings?
Hosted by Tim Green and Lisa Joyner, Find My Family helps people reconnect with family members after being separated for many years. The emotional reunions take place on-camera and in front of a place known as the “Family Tree.”
Following the performance finale of Dancing with the Stars, the premiere of Family attracted 12.76 million viewers and a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Those numbers look okay on their own but its significant that the series lost about 40% of its lead-in audience. ABC can’t be happy about that.
The real test will be next Monday’s broadcast though. Family won’t have the powerful Dancing lead-in and will expand to one hour.
What do you think? Is Find My Family worth watching or should ABC cut this series short? Cancel or keep it?

This was one of my new favorite shows!
I can’t wait until it returns in 2010!!
I am outraged that you would consider not continuing this. Of all the reality shows, I think this and Extreme Make Over do the most good of anything on TV. This is real, folks. I gave up a daughter for adoption in 1967 and was soooo encouraged by this show. If anything’s gotta go, get rid of Survivor. I’m done seeing people eating bugs and having temper tantrums, and devising ways to deceive others so they can win money!
What happened to “Find My Family”?????
Everyone I talk to about it LOVED it and now it’s gone!
It was the single new show I kept track of time and channel!
It was so touching and refreshing!
Please bring it back!!!!!
I would love to see Find My family stay on tv. I have already spoke with two different family members who would like to find one of their biological family members. I was excited to see if they would be able to get selected for the show. This is an encouraging program for those trying to put the missing puzzles of their lives together. Please keep this show on air.
I totally agree. I looked for the show to come on last week and it wasnt there. I sure hope they havent cancelled this show. I looooooooooove this show.
I hope this show stays on the air. It is such a feel good show. I look forward to seeing it every week. With all the crap that is on TV these days we need shows like this.
Keep the show. Being adopted myself, it has renewed my hope in finding my birthparents. I am moved to tears every episode.
Just heard about this series, Find My Family, and now cannot find it in our tv guide. Is it going to be continued?
Has Find My Family show been cancelled ? I hope not. Did the name of the show change to the Locator ?
@Kathy Clark: It’s currently on hiatus. Locator has been on WE since 2008 and is a different show.
Please keep this show on. In Europe, the Netherlands, there are similar shows, http://www.spoorloos.nl and http://www.vermist.nl and have been there for many years now. Many people watch. Please keep helping people find their blood-relatives!! God bless you!
Wonderful show, I say absolutely do not cancel this show!!
Please keep this show on. Wish it wA ON 20 YEARS ago, would have given me hope.I am a Birthmom, It was a true dream come true, in 93 I found her,I thought of her every day,I went to unwed mothers home in Indy.In. Worse thing we could take care of the Baby, was able to stay there for 10 days after delvery.I even had her Baptised there.St. Elizabeth. The most hardest thing I ever had to do. Dad called to see if I had sighed adoption papers, he said”you had better or you don’t have a home.So horrible. She passed… Read more »
It should show cases that don’t turn out good. Like mine. Bad idea to search for your family.
As an adopted person this show gives me hope that maybe it is not too late. All my life I have known but have not had luck finding my BM. It warms my heart to see television address this issue because unless you’ve been there you would not understand. This is a lifeline to hope. Please do not cancel this show.
Defently keep showing it. I am 70 yrs old & I would give my life to find my Daughter that was born in Scranton, Pa on 12/01/57. My parents made me give her up for adoption when she was 2 days old. I think that she got adopted thru Catholic Charities. They had sent me away to a home for un-wed mothers in Scranton, Pa. Believe me, there is not a month or year that goes by that she is always on my mine. I lived and grew up in Pa & then moved away to California & then to… Read more »
