The fat lady is singing for The Fosters, but she’s got another number left on her setlist. Although they’re not calling it “cancelled,” Freeform has announced there will be no sixth season of The Fosters TV series. The Freeform TV show will end with a “three-part limited series event” which will air this summer, but that’s not all. The cable network has also ordered a still untitled 13-episode spin-off series, starring Maia Mitchell (pictured above) and Cierra Ramirez (below).
A Freeform family drama, The Fosters also stars Teri Polo, Sherri Saum, Hayden Byerly, Noah Centineo, and David Lambert. The story centers on Stef Foster (Polo), a dedicated police officer, and school administrator Lena Adams (Saum). An interracial lesbian couple, Stef and Lena are raising a blended family of foster, biological, and adopted kids, in San Diego, California. The fifth and final season of The Fosters returns on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 10:00pm ET/PT with its 100th episode.

CIERRA RAMIREZ AND MAIA MITCHELL TO CONTINUE ITS LEGACY (TITLE TBA)Freeform, Disney’s young adult television and streaming network, announced today that the GLAAD award-winning series Vanity Fair calls “groundbreaking,” and Refinery29 calls “consistently revolutionary week-in, week-out,” will conclude with a special three-night limited series finale event next summer, which will lead into a new series following the lives of Callie (Maia Mitchell) and Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) as they embark on the next phase of their young adult lives. “The Fosters” will return for season 5B with ten episodes on Jan. 9 at 8:00 p.m. EST, including a monumental 100th episode.
Joanna Johnson, Bradley Bredeweg and Peter Paige said: “First and foremost, we want to thank our fans – our supportive ‘Fosters Family’ – and Freeform for fostering this show. It’s been the privilege of our lives to get to shepherd this beautiful family through five seasons of love, laughter, heartbreak, tribulation, and triumph – and message to the world that DNA doesn’t make a family, love does. All while allowing us to explore some of the most pressing social issues of our era. Now that the kids are growing up, it’s time to take them out into the world, to see them make their way into adulthood, continuing their search for identity and love, and the pursuit of their dreams and purpose in this ever-changing world.”
“The Fosters” is a compelling, one-hour drama about a multi-ethnic family mix of adopted and biological teenaged kids being raised by two moms. Stef Adams Foster, a dedicated police officer, and her wife, Lena Adams Foster, a school vice principal, have built a close-knit, loving family with Stef’s biological son from a previous marriage, Brandon; their adopted twins, Mariana and Jesus; and adopted siblings Jude and his half-sister, Callie.

What do you think? Is The Fosters TV show ending at the right time? Should Freeform have cancelled or renewed it for season six? Do you plan to check out the spin-off? Let us know, below.
I really hope there’ll be a Season 6. Like, i found out yesterday that there won’t be, and since then i’m depressed af, seriously. I can’t stop thinking about things like ‘Is Callie going to date Aaron after he went on date with someone else? Or is she going to experiment and try it with Ximena?’, ‘Is Jesus gonna be normal, like totally? Will he graduate?’, ‘Who is Marianna going to choose? Wyatt or Logan?’, ‘Will Ximena get her DACA card?’, ‘Is Callie going on art school or sociology?’, ‘What’s wrong with Stef?’, ‘Is Tess really lesbian or just experimenting?’,… Read more »
Watch the last episode and most your questions are answered
OH NO! This is my favorite show ever! Have watched since day one. Shows people today how everyone can get along. Covers all the things going on today with kids and NO other show does that. Without murder that is! You seriously need to rethink this….,Please?!
I am an adult and I have watched the Fosters from the beginning and I love it !!! I am going to be very sad to see it go off !! It seems like the net works keep taking the good tv shows off and just keep the trash on I guess I will just have to read more and watch less TV !!!
Really hoping for a season 6. Love this show… I just started series weeks ago and haven’t watch nothing but The Fosters since first episode.. I’m now on season 5 and don’t want it to end!
I’m on season 4. Can’t believe I’m reading it ends season 5 with cliffhanger. Not right
I really wish they would make a season 6 I love this show it expressed how I feel and how my life was
ME TOO!! My daughter and I LOVE to watch this together!!
I loved the show but I also hope every single episode that Brandon and Callie would fall in love again it’s like I keep waiting for it and it never happens also I liked when the other jesus guy was in it so weird with this new guy playing him and I hate how everyone is gay on here can’t one person be straight it annoys me but please don’t cancel it if so Brandon and Callie should fall in love
I think the show needs to continue. I’ve finally found my “family”… there is a place for me on tv now (where I see my-quee r-African-American-self reflected on tv) and I would really appreciate it if it wasn’t taken away. This show also give me so much hope for the future of this world, it makes me feel there is a future worth fighting for in this America. This show is home to me.
Watching this show really built up my moms and mine relationship. There should be a Season 6 to carry on after that scene. It cannot end like. I relate my life to Callie. So it really is fun to watch. Makes me want to better myself as well. This is a good series show. If you cancel the Season 6. Then you should not be producing in the first place.
My daughter and i have had such great family time watching the Fosters…and tbe conversations which were sparked from things which happened during the show, so valuable. How can we just leave Callie and AJ trapped in a church with ICE iutside?? We looked at each other in disbelief as Netflix went to another show rather than the next episode of the Fosters! Oh, how we hope there will be opportunities to watch more!!
Please Please Please for the love of God please keep this series going. no spin offs….. Please keep it going like soap operas, why not? All 15 of my nieces and daughters are all in love with this show, and for me the mom, been in love with Jlo since Selena, this is our show!!!! Soap opera can go over 30 years long…… please do not let this show go. We will miss everyone especially Steph and Lena!! We have about 30 fans right here…… begging you to not end this show. Its my only reason I have Netflix.
I really hate that the show is ending, stef and lena should have a spin off, they are
the stars Im going to really miss them.
I’m sad to see it go, it is definitely a great show will look forward for the next generation..
Five seasons and 104 episodes is quite a long run for any series these days. I’m glad that it will be given a chance to give us fans a proper goodbye.
I’m so disappointed that The Fosters will not be renewed for a sixth season. I doubt we will watch the the spinoff. While the two spinoff characters are excellent support members of the cast, they don’t hold a candle to the two stars…Stef and Lena.
