The ratings for Grey’s Anatomy have been dropping and the show is expensive to make but it remains one of ABC‘s top-rated shows. How long will it make sense for the network to keep it going? How long will viewers tune in? We’ll have to wait and see.
Grey’s Anatomy continues to follow the lives of the medical staff at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital. This season, the large cast includes Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., Sara Ramirez, Kevin McKidd, Jessica Capshaw, Sarah Drew, Jesse Williams, Camilla Luddington, Caterina Scorsone, and Jerrika Hinton.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/8 update: ABC has renewed Grey’s Anatomy for a 12th season.

Due to a Nielsen glitch, some of the early ratings of the 2014-15 season were revised a few weeks later.
For comparisons: The 10th season of Grey’s Anatomy averaged a 2.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.53 million total viewers.
Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Grey’s Anatomy TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or be renewed for an 12th season?
This is madness. The show died with Derek Shepherd. I am disgusted at how Shonda Rhimes just disrespected 10 years of all her fans. You gave Derek a 30 minute ending and expected what from the fans exactly? I hope the plug on this show gets pulled in less than 30 seconds. Rhimes was trying to gain popularity by immitating Game of Thrones tactics in the hopes of improving her ratings. THIS WAS A COMPLETE MESS. SO DONE. THIS IS NOT GOOD TV, NOT EVEN GOOD ART.
I loves this show I watch it ever Thursday it’s on I would like it to go on more season
In my opinion they may as well cancel Greys women wanted to see the romance between McDeeamy and Meredith that’s over so to me so is this show. Won’t watch it anymore it’s going down the same path ER did after Clooney left.. Nowhere!
The show has been killed off slowly until last night. That was it the final straw it’s over pull the plug you’ve lost a ton of followers. The whole reason the show was created is gone. The love story between Meredith and Derek ended now let the show end.
Have you forgotten that Babyboomers watch TV? If not, then keep “Grey’s Anatomy” going. It has character, something that most of ABC’s series lack. Drop “Scandal” or “How to Get Away with Murder,” to name a couple of shows I’d like to see cancelled. Besides being dull, these newer shows just confirm everyday life. Why watch a scandal or try to get away with murder when both are so commonplace that I, for one, don’t want to dignify such indignities.
The 10th and 11th season have not been very engrossing. However, the first 8 seasons were quite good and had some great characters and good acting; the first half of the 9th season had some great moments. I thin it could be revived and bring back some of the initial fans if some of the sense of humor and risk-taking that the show had in the earlier days returned. Lexie Grey and Mark Sloan were wonderful characters. Now that they were both killed off, they could return for a few episodes. I can see an episode where in the last… Read more »
Meridith character is becoming a *****, I’d leave her too! Time to moth ball this show.
Being a fan of the show is like being in a bad marriage and those of us (like myself) only continue to watch because we’ve invested so many years into it. Everything from the plot to the acting looks forced. The story line is so predictable and boring. Even the actors don’t even seem to be enjoying the show anymore. I”m sure that’s why Patrick Demsey asked to leave. At some point, it compromising your career to be a boxed in character from lack of creative writing. It’s like watching people work at a job they hate. The original character’s… Read more »
The show has lost its sense of humor. Some of the best characters have been killed off, fired, or have left the show.
The Meredith/Derek story doesn’t make sense any more…they split up over their careers, after they had been through so many heart wrenching issues.
The creator of the show has stated she doesn’t care what her viewers think. I have decided not to watch any of her shows. She’s too arrogant to understand why she has a successful career. It’s done.
True I loved season 1-5, but killing George, Mark, Lexie & now Derek. They went too far. I won’t watch another episode.
I have been watching since Season 1. I have always just loved this show. Although, this past season has been awful. I think the loss of some of the character’s is the main problem. The relationship with Derek and Merideth was a main point of the show from the very beginning. Now that he is gone, it is as if the show has lost a lot of it’s original meaning. If he is not coming back then I think the show needs to end. It needs to end with a happy ending of the 2 still together, as they promised… Read more »
Please do not cancel Grey’s Anatomy
Like many other shows, the tone of GA has darkened over the past year or two and that’s been off-putting. While it’s quite realistic to portray problems, issues and challenges that all of the characters have been facing, an occasional “win” for a few of them probably wouldn’t hurt, either. An occasionally successful or rewarding interpersonal relationship between characters would, I think be a major boost for ratings. Given the wealth of downers we can get on a daily basis from “news” programs and other mainscream media, have all of the producers and writers somehow concluded that everyone LIKES that… Read more »
I love this show and want to see it renewed for many years to come!
Ellen’s character has become a ***** this season. Of course most of the characters this year are whining, bitchn’ or a pain. Time to pull the plug. Beeeeeeeep
A show that has long outlived its usefulness. It’s a cadavir of what it used to be.
I agree. I stopped watching two years ago as I found the storylines dull and stale. I guess if people are still watching it stays on the air but sometimes I think some shows should bow out gracefully and leave people wanting more rather than being run into the ground. Law & Order SVU is another example of a show that has been on far too long.
