The CW has picked up a new TV show based on a popular Venezuelan telenovela — Jane the Virgin.
Jennie Snyder Urman is the writer on the project and is also executive producer, along with Ben Silverman, Gary Pearl, and Jorge Granier. Brad Silberling directed the pilot. The cast includes Gina Rodriguez, Jaime Camil, Yael Grobglas, Brett Dier, Andrea Navedo, Justin Baldoni, Ivonne Coll, and Ryan Devlin.
Here’s the brief description from the network:
JANE THE VIRGIN – A series of surprising and unforeseen events causes a hard-working, religious young Latina to be accidentally artificially inseminated. Adapted from a Venezuelan telenovela.
No word on how many episodes have been ordered or when the series will start airing. We should know more in the coming week.
