Last week, after just two airings, ABC cancelled and pulled their new TV show, Of Kings and Prophets. Was the network too quick to pull the trigger? Were they justified?
Of Kings and Prophets is based on the Biblical Books of Samuel. The story is told through the eyes of the battle-weary King Saul, the resentful prophet Samuel, and the resourceful young shepherd, David. The three are on a collision course with destiny. The cast includes Ray Winstone, Olly Rix, Simone Kessell, James Floyd, Haaz Sleiman, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Jeanine Mason, Mohammad Bakri, David Walmsley, Louis Talpe, Nathaniel Parker, and Lyne Renée.
The series premiered on March 8th to a very disappointing 0.77 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.33 million viewers. The second episode saw the numbers drop even lower, falling to a 0.54 in the demo and just 2.42 million viewers. Those are terrible numbers for a major network and are likely some of the lowest that ABC has ever received.
One has to wonder if the ratings would have dropped even lower in week three or if they would have risen instead.
What do you think? Was ABC too quick to cancel and pull Of Kings and Prophets off the schedule or, was the network justified? Should it have been cancelled sooner?
they have 9 episodes on line. the tenth may not have been finished. ABC was on to something big and really dropped the ball. this would have been up there with vikings if marketed proper, hell i look for shows like this and didn’t even know it existed until i found it yesterday online. cancelling this, ABC really dropped the ball here… seriously , would fire the person who scheduled an marketed this.
Should never have been cancelled. Why can’t BBC buy this. It has british actors and would go down a storm. Ray and olly were excellent.
2 episodes, really????? Is someone getting bored with their job or what ????
