The Last Man Standing TV show is ending but, this time, it’s not a cancellation. The FOX network has announced that the upcoming ninth season will wrap up the show. Season nine, which begins filming next week, will have 21 installments and that will bring the series to 194 total episodes. The new season is expected to debut in January.
In a statement, series star Tim Allen said, “I’ve been one lucky dude to have been part of Last Man Standing. I so appreciate the incredible support from our fans over this near decade of work. As we approach the ninth season, I just admire and feel grateful for all the hard work our wonderful cast and crew have done. We had all considered to end the show after last season, but together with FOX, we decided to add a year so we could produce a full season to create the gentle and fun goodbye. I’m looking forward to a memorable and hilarious final season.”
A family sitcom, Last Man Standing revolves around the extended Baxter family and stars Allen, Nancy Travis, Amanda Fuller, Molly McCook, Christoph Sanders, Jordan Masterson, Jonathan Adams, Krista Marie Yu, and Hector Elizondo. It’s unknown if Kaitlyn Dever (who plays daughter Eve) or Jet Jurgensmeyer (the most recent actor to play grandson Boyd) will be putting in appearances.
Here’s the announcement from FOX, as well as a pair of tweets from McCook:

What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Last Man Standing is ending with its upcoming ninth season? Do you think that you would have watched a 10th season?
If the show isn’t beng cancelled, then why is it ending? One of the few shows on TV worth watching, sorry to see it go.
i will miss this show i love tim allen he is so funny i would watch the 10th season if they had it
My wife & I are very sorry to hear that the 9th season will be the final season. We love this family show with humor. Thank you for the good times.
I’m very sad that last man standing is ending. It is one of my favorite shows. The cast is awesome. I was really hoping that they would go a few more years. I wish them all well and thank you for all the laughs. You will truly be missed.
Best show on TV, love it. Hate to see it end.
Sorry to hear it’s ending & loved his political views! Glad they’re actually doing a wrap up instead of just ending it.
I would definitely watch last man standing season 10-11-12-on and on. Finally a show that is funny as well as entertaining to all ages. Please see if you can get them to do more. As a bedridden Senior( 73 years old,) it brings laughter and happiness to my day. Thank You to all the actor’s and studio crew for your great work
A great full fan Susan Secrist( Oregon)
I would have watched season 10,11,12,13,14 and for however long this wonderful show stayed on the air. This show resembles the America that I know and love. It’s kind of strange feeling this way about a tv show but I do. Maybe they’ll change their minds and go longer. If it’s not being canceled then maybe the cast is just tired of doing the show. Anyway looking forward to the 9th season and I’ll be depressed when it’s done. LMS Forever!!!
There goes the last scripted show I watch on network TV.
Thanks so much to Tim, Nancy, Hector, Amanda, Molly, Kaitlyn and the rest of the cast.
Aside from Holey Moley, I’m done with the networks.
It’s past time, I had to really think about if I wanted to continue it or not with Tim’s views and they way he voiced them, but I stuck with it. I’m glad that it’s ending, so I no longer have to struggle with watching a show that starring a Trumper.
You never had to struggle with it. it. Don’t you know that your remote doesn’t control itself? That’s your job. And now I know where the thumbs down came from, so I’m happy to return the favor. I’m no Trump supporter either, but it was refreshing to see a show reflect both sides instead of just the Democratic perspective alone like most shows.
But you don’t see not everyone like show. They have right dislike it.
I didn’t say that he didn’t have the right to dislike the show. I told him that he could change the channel because he complained about having to struggle with watching a Trump supporter when he was never forced to do that. I didn’t say anywhere that he wasn’t able to dislike the show.
I am so sorry that this will be the last season. It’s a great show and I’ll be having “Last Man Standing” withdrawal. I’ll have to watch all it’s reruns now. Oh wait, I already do.
Love the show. Would have watched it as long as it was on. Especially will miss not seeing Tim Allen.
Will be so sorry to see it end…Best show on tv….the best cast and crew out there
This has been our very favorite show!! So sorry to see it go, we would have watched it for as many years as it was on. So, so sad to see it go
Oh, this hurts. This really, really, really hurts. It’s better than it being cancelled again, but c’mon man. I’ll watch every single episode of it, but I don’t want it to go.
