The Last Man Standing TV show is ending but, this time, it’s not a cancellation. The FOX network has announced that the upcoming ninth season will wrap up the show. Season nine, which begins filming next week, will have 21 installments and that will bring the series to 194 total episodes. The new season is expected to debut in January.
In a statement, series star Tim Allen said, “I’ve been one lucky dude to have been part of Last Man Standing. I so appreciate the incredible support from our fans over this near decade of work. As we approach the ninth season, I just admire and feel grateful for all the hard work our wonderful cast and crew have done. We had all considered to end the show after last season, but together with FOX, we decided to add a year so we could produce a full season to create the gentle and fun goodbye. I’m looking forward to a memorable and hilarious final season.”
A family sitcom, Last Man Standing revolves around the extended Baxter family and stars Allen, Nancy Travis, Amanda Fuller, Molly McCook, Christoph Sanders, Jordan Masterson, Jonathan Adams, Krista Marie Yu, and Hector Elizondo. It’s unknown if Kaitlyn Dever (who plays daughter Eve) or Jet Jurgensmeyer (the most recent actor to play grandson Boyd) will be putting in appearances.
Here’s the announcement from FOX, as well as a pair of tweets from McCook:

What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Last Man Standing is ending with its upcoming ninth season? Do you think that you would have watched a 10th season?
Would watch a 10th season for sure
I will watch fox network until the 9th & final season of last man standing is finished, unless they air the reruns from seasons 7 & 8. But other than I won’t watch fox network. The show got high ratings, #1 comedy on fox network & 9.0 millions views. Anyway fox is pulling the plug on it for absaloutely no reason. It is a great, funny, clean, family sitcom. I agree with the debartlo family it’s a great show. They kept shows on for more than 9 seasons, like big bang theory america’s got talent & american idol, which are… Read more »
I don’t agree with why nots comment about time, I love the show & tim allen.
I’m really upset with fox network
also their doing the same thing abc
network did cut the cord or pull the
plug if I may say. The show had high
ratings, it’s a clean funny family sitcom.
Fox is bringing back the dexter. Which is not funny or a comedy by any means.
Last man standing was rated #1 comedy on fox now fox wants to pull the plug on
It. Do you agree?!!
I can’t believe you would this show. Very poor decision!!! It’s one of the best shows on television and now you’ve cancelled it. I’m done watching your network!!
About time.
I think last man standing is one of the best sitcoms on tv granted it was much better with the original cast but it is still a great show my husband even watched and he usually only watched sports sci fi or history and a good movie
Our Whole Family (over 25 of us) Loves this show and would Definitely watch it a tenth season and “Beyond” LOL Toy Story pun
Great show and will miss not seeing new episodes. I will be starting over at s01e01 and keep it part of my viewing lineup anyway.
So often we say “Blahblah should have ended 2 years earlier before it went sour” – While I will miss the show, I’m glad to see they didn’t try to milk it further and further and further and further.
I’ve been a loyal fan for the last 8 years. I’m sad to hear that the 9th season will be Last Man Standings last season. A job well done by the cast and crew.
To one and all, stay safe and be well.

Through all the changes, it’s still the best cast and show on tv!!
Thanks for entertaining us for all these years!
Loved the show but miss the original cast. Just not the same.
Most definitely I would have watched a 10th season.
Love the final season to be the 10 th
This show started off pretty darn funny, but then came the cast changes. The death blow came (at least for me) when all the changes were made after it was cancelled and then revived. Went from funny to annoying.
I still like it, but Molly Ephraim leaving really hurt the show, and less of Kaitlyn Dever did too. And then the boy that replaced Boyd also quit.
This is one of the funniest shows on TV. The life lessons are some not taught today. So he makes political statements. Most of the time they are just funny. Please reconsider!
