The Last Man Standing TV show is ending but, this time, it’s not a cancellation. The FOX network has announced that the upcoming ninth season will wrap up the show. Season nine, which begins filming next week, will have 21 installments and that will bring the series to 194 total episodes. The new season is expected to debut in January.
In a statement, series star Tim Allen said, “I’ve been one lucky dude to have been part of Last Man Standing. I so appreciate the incredible support from our fans over this near decade of work. As we approach the ninth season, I just admire and feel grateful for all the hard work our wonderful cast and crew have done. We had all considered to end the show after last season, but together with FOX, we decided to add a year so we could produce a full season to create the gentle and fun goodbye. I’m looking forward to a memorable and hilarious final season.”
A family sitcom, Last Man Standing revolves around the extended Baxter family and stars Allen, Nancy Travis, Amanda Fuller, Molly McCook, Christoph Sanders, Jordan Masterson, Jonathan Adams, Krista Marie Yu, and Hector Elizondo. It’s unknown if Kaitlyn Dever (who plays daughter Eve) or Jet Jurgensmeyer (the most recent actor to play grandson Boyd) will be putting in appearances.
Here’s the announcement from FOX, as well as a pair of tweets from McCook:

What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Last Man Standing is ending with its upcoming ninth season? Do you think that you would have watched a 10th season?
Ok, It’s Oct. 21 and I am so missing Last Man Standing!!! Please bring it back!!!
This was my husband and my favorite program!!! The banter between Husband and Wife was brilliant writing and execution from Nancy and Tim. We loved the content of the show. We will miss Tim Allen.
Sorry to see this one go….good clean funny show. And Tim Allen has a great sense of timing comedy, a rubber face to naturally make one laugh. Have loved his shows. I watch reruns of Home Improvement every day still. Sad they replaced one daughter, the original was better.
Another good show that ending after while it won’t be nothing good on tv sorry to see it end
Makes me sad. But all great things must end.
I’m very sad that the show is ending. I’ve watched every show that Tim Allen has been in and will truly miss him.
3/1/21, i’m really disappointed to learn that last Man standing is being taken off the air again. This was the only show I look forward to watching. Maybe you could do some reruns if the government allows
I love Tim Allen , I hope that he does a Home Improvement reboot if there is no more Last man standing…
This is a favorite, I even watch reruns. It’s a classic!
LAst man standing is my favorite show. I record all the episodes and watch them when I have time. I would definitely not want the show to end and wish it would keep on going for many more seasons.
Yes, we DON’T want the show to stop..!!!!
Love this show classic home improvement too always think Tim Allen keep you me happy good friend and good human too.
Im very very upset. Tv has so much garbage on I find it difficult to watch. My favorite is Last Man Standing. I watch reruns all the time for lack of anything new. Please reconsider. This year has been so difficult. We all need to laugh and this great show does that for all ages. We need more shows like this. I can’t tell you how disappointed I am. Thank you. Eileen Purr
I’m sorry to see a once good show become less than desirable to watch. The predictable canned laughter was very 70’s. The writers self destroyed the last couple seasons. Tim Allen was still funny but extremely censored. The women were not funny and definitely leaned toward the kind of family I would walk out on. All in all, I think the writers self destroyed the show
You are right on. I feel the same, the first 6 seasons were the best. Did Fox tell them we will pick up the show with conditions. Like stop the political and religious stuff and everything will be good.
Big bummer that it ending i can’t wait to see waiting for it. Look forward to seeing it.
