A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
Started watching this show lucifer and I really enjoy it and has now became one of my favorite shows.. I hope it does not get cancelled there are too many shows that come out and are cancelled that can be really great, there are a lot of TV shows out there that are not as good and have content that is a lot worse why do people get upset about a show like lucifer I think it’s great funny at times and like the story line so far so please keep it going for more years to come please….
Keep the show! So tired of status quo shows, this is different and has a different spin.
Keep!!!
I’m a theologian and, quite honestly, if I were to imagine a fallen angel I’d want him to be smart, sexy, and devilishly handsome. Tom Ellis is all those things, and more (don’t ask me what the “more” is!). I enjoy this show immensely, and I hope that Fox doesn’t cancel it. The One Million Moms don’t get it, do they? They aren’t watching this show, so they don’t see Lucifer’s “other” side. For instance, in the episode which aired last night (3/21), Lucifer’s anger at God for killing a good man was very revealing. I can’t wait to see… Read more »
Keep! Definetly keep
keeeeeeeeep best show i have seen in years
I find I really enjoy the show, therefore is seems certain that they will cancel it. All the shows I fall for seem to get cancelled after a single season. Almost Human and Forever are recent examples. Firefly is probably one of the most classic examples in TV history of stupidly cancelling a really great show. Anyway, I find the show entertaining and often un-expectantly thought provoking. Last Night’s episode, “A Preacher Walks Into A Bar” was a great example of the show’s interesting skew. You really end up empathizing for Lucifer and see how he is struggling with Faith… Read more »
ABSOLUTELY the BEST show on TV FOX MUST Keep It or they will go to hell 🙂
Keep it! – my whole family loves it 🙂
I DID NOT WANT TO WATCH IT AT FIRST DUE TO MY CATHOLIC UP BRINGING, FEELING THE GUILT AND ALL, BUT AFTER WATCHING IT ITS A TYPICAL CRIME SHOW WITH A TWIST AND ACTUALLY LUCIFER ISNT ALL THAT BAD, HE SEEMS TO HAVE A SOFT SPOT AND DOES SHOW IT IN EACH EPISODE, THE BIBLE IS NOT BEING BROUGHT UP INTO THIS AND IT REALLY DOESNT DISRESPECT ANYTHING. PLUS THERE ARE WAY MORE CRAZY SHOWS OUT THERE , I FIND LUCIFER TO BE KIND OF FUNNY. PLUS DONT FORGET HE WAS ONE OF GODS MOST BELOVED BEFORE HE WENT AGAINST… Read more »
Keep this is one of the few shows I actually like. I hate cop shows but love this one.
KEEP
Keep this show on..its refreshing, funny and drama..i love it
For Heaven’s sake, keep Lucifer on the air! It’s a very well written show, with the charming, witty and handsome Tom Ellis giving an uneasy likability and swagger to the most reviled being in the universe. I love how it explores the psychology of what ‘sin’ is and I’m intrigued by the developing ‘humanity’ Lucifer is experiencing. I keep wondering if this show should wind up having multiple seasons, would God Himself show up to have a chat with Lucifer…
Dave, I agree completely with your post. I just really like the way the writers are spinning things with “good” guys doing bad things and “bad” guys doing good things. I really like the current subplot with Amenadiel (Lucifer’s brother) and really curious how this ends up fitting into the main story, although I dislike the sub plot with Dan (Chloe’s ex).
There’s way more to this show than “God” vs “the Devil”. It’s funny, dramatic, and has a thought-provoking story. Tom Ellis plays the character with perfection. When people get so closed-minded without giving something a chance to develop or really pay attention to what the real message is it makes one think we should all be back dwelling in caves. AND it’s not another brain-dead reality show! KEEP IT!
Renew Lucifer love this show
