A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
This show is my latest guilty pleasure. I TIVO everything but this is barely recorded before I watch it, I can’t wait. The premise is unique and the talent is very fascinating. As one who has acted several times Lucifer and his brother are very skilled at character development.
show is great . the pilot was great Lucifer is so much powerful and doesn’t care about any one and that makes it so much enjoyable. but lately Lucifer is nothing but a scared man and i think that is the reason for the ratings going down . because when you hear name ‘Lucifer’ you think of powerful ,ruler of Hell .
Love the show!! The whole family–grandma, mom , son, dad , daughter, in-laws –watch and discuss and enjoy GREATLY!!! Best show on TV!!
Love the show. It’s refreshing change to the zombies,, old police stories and the reality shows. I hope it doesn’t get axed or Lucifer sent back to hell!

Love this show! Please renew!
Love love love the show . The only thing wrong with the show right now is the opposite my other fave which is scorpion . I love the characters on the show and I love the premise is such a shame that every show that has a great storyline gets canceled lately
Personally I like where the show is going. Thus far the show has kept to a rather simple plot, with things usually being wrapped up in an episode similar to CSI or any other cop show. However, I believe that Lucifer has a lot of promise if it’s allowed to go into more seasons. Once the show knows that it isn’t going to be canceled, it may be to try some new things, to really delve deep into things. The show is still playing it safe thus far, but from the small snippets that I’ve seen, I can tell the… Read more »
