Is Netflix open to saving any more TV shows? Recently, the streaming service’s VP of original content, Cindy Holland, discussed the future of Lucifer, Shadowhunters, and Timeless, Deadline reports.
As reported earlier, Netflix has picked up Lucifer for a fourth season after FOX cancelled the TV show earlier this year. The cast includes Tom Ellis, Lauren German, DB Woodside, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, Aimee Garcia, Tricia Helfer, Scarlett Estevez, and Tom Welling.
However, while Netflix has saved Lucifer, it’s still unclear if the streaming service will save other cancelled shows like the recently axed Shadowhunters and Timeless.
During a recent interview, VP original content Cindy Holland revealed there are no plans to pick up either Shadowhunters or Timeless for more seasons. Though, the final season of Shadowhunters will be available on the streaming service in 2019:
Shadowhunters is a Freeform show. I do know the are are another 12 episodes coming to Netflix in 2019. … [I]t has a very active fan base. I probably get 100 emails or more personally.”
Meanwhile, Lucifer fans can take comfort because Netflix has their backs:
Lucifer is a fantastic show that has really resonated with audiences in parts of the world, so we felt it was important for our licensing team to try to help that show continue for our fans.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Lucifer, Shadowhunters, and/or Timeless? Do you think another network will pick up the cancelled series?
The worst part about these programs going to Netflix streaming services is not being able to get them on Freeform and NBC streaming services. A person has already paid for cable services to get NBC and Freeform streaming service. As being a person on social security you don’t have the extra money for Netflix. Give a guy a break. Especially since the good programs are getting canceled and sent to the streaming services you have to pay for especially CBS.
Timeless was such a superior show it just amazes me that it hasn’t been picked up. Interesting little known bits of history presented in an entertaining way so as to educate the audience; we could use a LOT more of that these days. A rising tide lifts all boats!
If you notice, any show that required a little thought or knowledge of history is cancelled. It doesn’t seem to interest the targeted demographics of the networks. The 19-49 crowd.
I hope that Timeless and Shadowhunters get picked up by another network!
Timeless is refreshing and brilliant. What a great addition to the Netflix library it would be. What a darn shame….

I guess the Clockblockers should be emailing Netflix until they cave and pick up Timeless. 😀
I really, really hope that Neflix picks up Timeless. It was the best show on TV and I faithfully watched it every week. I will no longer watch NBC.
I really hope Netflix picks up Timeless. It is an amazing show with an amazing cast. It is different from all the other shows and deserves a chance to continue to tell its story.
Netflix, thank you, thank you for saving Lucifer, i wish Bitten would be picked back up too, but can you please save Sadowhunters too, PLEASE, thank you…..
Out of these three shows, Timeless is the one I would continue to watch. I only watched a couple of episodes of Shadowhunters before ditching it a long time ago. And I was ready to drop Lucifer when I heard Fox was canceling it. But Timeless is the one that is fresh and interesting. Everyone is losing by this show being cancelled.
Timeless was an amazing show. It would be so great to see it continued on Netflix.
I wish netflix would pick up both Shadowhunters and Timeless, I think both would be really well on Netflix!!!
Shadowhunters is way better that Lucifer and timeless put together. After having 150,000 votes to save the show and posting in such public places such as outside comic con and time square. Netflix and free form have ignored the fans pleas. A 2 hour end special is not acceptable !!!!
You’ll need a lot more than 150,000 to make a difference. It’s a drop in the bucket of what actually is needed. 10-50X more.
Netflix is missing a golden opportunity not picking up “Timeless.” If anyone at Netflix is following social media (especially Twitter) or happened to notice a particular fan-paid-for plane pulling a “Save Timeless” banner through the sky above the recent ComiCon gathering, they’d know they have a huge built-in, guaranteed audience just waiting to jump on board. NBC made a foolish decision when they canceled “Timeless.” They are now losing viewers of lesser shows because of their disregard for the loyal viewers who are devoted to the network’s better shows, one of which was “Timeless.” In fact, NBC has become notorious… Read more »
I feel the same way about FOX cancelling Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but I don’t attack the other shows on the network. That just isn’t right. Timeless was resurrected once and you should be happy that it at least got a second chance. And, I agree, it should’ve been renewed and I was even rooting for it, but I understand why the network didn’t renew it. I feel that way about many good shows that were cancelled that I had the pleasure of watching (ex. Great News, No Tomorrow, Undateable) and over time I’ve learned to accept it. Great News was cancelled… Read more »
Hi, Ted. You make some good points. I will defend myself a little, just to say I’ve been disappointed many times in the past with great shows being canceled, and I haven’t gone online or anywhere else to complain. “Timeless” just hit a particularly strong chord with me, and I interact little enough with other locations online where folks have made comments, so felt I wanted to do so here. And yes, of course, one grows to accept when a good show has been canceled — what else are we going to do? They seldom come back (unless years later… Read more »
I absolutely agree with you on all the points you made. I, too, am a devoted Timeless fan and will not be investing my time watching new shows on NBC this upcoming season only to have them pull the plug!! I’m really disgusted that certain networks want to “reboot” previous hit series from years gone by rather than continue with an creative, educational and innovative show like Timeless with a loyal fan base. Hopefully, Netflix will be a visionary and pick up Timeless…then sit back and reap their rewards!!
You are giving people too much credit. People are more like sheep being led. People say because show X was cancelled they are going to boycott a particular network. And they might until another good show comes on that same network and when then becomes their next favorite show ever. Why do I say this, because people have been saying this for years yet the boycott never holds.
I am so happy that Netflix saved Lucifer! I love that show and can’t wait for season 4!
