If Elizabeth McCord wants to become “Madam President”, she better hurry. CBS has announced that the Madam Secretary TV show will end with its upcoming sixth season. There will be just 10 episodes in the final season and they will begin airing in Fall 2019.
A political thriller, Madam Secretary stars Téa Leoni, Tim Daly, Sara Ramirez, Željko Ivanek, Keith Carradine, Sebastian Arcelus, Patina Miller, Geoffrey Arend, Erich Bergen, Kathrine Herzer, Wallis Currie-Wood, and Evan Roe. The drama follows the shrewd, determined Elizabeth McCord (Leoni). As U.S. Secretary of State, she battles office politics, while driving diplomacy and negotiating global deals.
Elizabeth was once a CIA analyst, who exited that post for ethical reasons. She later returned to public life, at the request of President Conrad Dalton (Carradine). He values her apolitical leanings, knowledge of the Middle East, flair for languages, and unconventional thinking. Elizabeth is married to Henry (Daly), a former theology professor who is now an intelligence operative. Together, they’re bringing up three children, which can really test her diplomatic skills.
CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl announced that there won’t be a seventh season at CBS’ upfronts press breakfast earlier today. Kahl said, “They’re going to do 10 episodes in the fall and tie up the storyline. We’re happy and excited to do that for Téa, the cast, and the audience. It’s hard when a show ‘just poofs and goes away.’ We like to be able to do this and send the show off with a great deal of respect and celebration. Everyone appreciates when we are able to do that.”
What do you think? Do you like the Madam Secretary TV show? Do you think season six is a good time to end this CBS TV show? Would you have watched a seventh season?
I grew to love this show. I’m disappointed that this is the last season.
I am so sad that this show will not continue past the 6th season! I have learned alot about the goverment through this fictual show. I absolutly love the cast ! Tea is the most im pressive sec. of state and then president! One can only hope that real government officials can be so honest and forthcoming as this administration! What a nice fantasy!!!
We absolutely would have watched several more seasons!!!! Love this show. It airs a little late for us, so we tape it and watch the next day
This is very sad !! With all the lame shows on TV, Madam Secretary gets cancelled?? If the cast wants to call it quits, I respect that. But with her just getting the presidency, many family and staff happenings, I would think it would open up a brand new opportunity for story plots. Ok, I feel better (not really) putting in my two cents.
We enjoy the show an upset the tv channel WTKR in Virginia has the show coming on so late 10:30 who can stay awake . They think everyone enjoys a ball game an that rules the tv. I think ratings would improve if show was earlier.
I really enjoy the show – it’s one of my favorites, and I will miss it!
Madam Secretary is one of the best TV shows there is out there. Sorry to see it become a victim of reality TV like all the other good shows that have been on and gone to the wayside. I would have watched season 7. Hopefully it will go out on a good note.
Madam Secretary has been one of the most authentic shows ever. Sorry to see it end, but its bet to go out with a bang. Good luck to all who have been associated with the show. Kudos!
Madam Secretary is/was one of the best “thinking” show with great writers and exceptional casting. Should have been appreciated as much as West Wing. Agree it is due the respect to wrap up the series with a solid storyline ending. Unfortunate there is so much focus on reality shows and more shallow or predictable storylines. An element I enjoyed was the continuing “meaty” storyline delivering thought-provoking messages and issues each week. Another element was the characters growth as they moved through “life”. Will also miss the clever incorporation of reality-based story-lines that play out in our government/society. Feel like I’m… Read more »
sorry to hear this wonderful show is ending. Unfortunately, a TV show which does not have violence & has integrity & family values are not popular. I also like how both sides of issues are represented. The Cast does a fabulous job. Thank you.
Love this show ! Would definitely watch more. Sad to hear it’s ending.
Madame Secretary is one of the best shows on TV, and I am so very sorry to see it end. I definitely would have enjoyed many more seasons of the McCord family and their integrity. It has been interesting watching Elizabeth as the dignified diplomat who seems to be able to solve nearly every situation.
I agree I will miss this show, my husband and i both watch it. I would live to see it go for another 2 years. The cast is wonderful. It is very authentic. We will miss watching. We think it should be nominated for a grammy!
I’ve always liked this show. I love all the characters and they are well represented. But since Elizabeth has become president, they’ve really done her a disservice by changing her hair and clothes to truly dowdy. It’s like they’re trying to make her look like Mamie Eisenhower! That said, the episodes don’t seem as exciting. It was more fun when Elizabeth was running around putting out fires and getting things done. I definitely don’t always agree with her politics but I will continue watching for as long as it’s on. I like how both sides of an issue are represented… Read more »
I love to watch Madam Secretary and would like to see a Madam President next season…..
I very much liked the TV show. I thought it did a great job of raising important issues and presented logical ways of resolving them with integrity. I’m still watching the show and it appears that they gave it more than 10 shows for the final season. But I am very sorry to see it go. I can understand how the cast may have found it exhausting and may have wanted a break but I don’t understand why the network wanted to end it.
