Unfortunately for ABC, Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD has never lived up to ratings expectations and become a hit for the network. It did okay in the first season and then viewership dropped more than 30% in season two. Will the ratings continue to fall? Could it be cancelled or is it almost guaranteed to be renewed for a fourth season to have enough episodes for syndication? Stay tuned.
On Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Agent Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet) lead their team as they search the world for more powered people. They soon discover that they’re not the only ones looking for new inhumans. The rest of the cast includes Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, Nick Brood, Adrianne Palicki, Henry Simmons, and Luke Mitchell.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
3/4 update: ABC has renewed Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD and 14 other TV shows for the 2016-17 season. Details here.
5/18 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Last year comparison: The second season of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD averaged a 1.59 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.47 million total viewers.
Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD TV show? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season?
I forget when it will be on next season. If people think the ratings a plummeting because the show is on a 9 pm, they better not move it to 10 pm. it also better keep at least the ratings it has now and not go down below a 1.0
They already confirmed it will be moving to 10 pm
I can’t believe this show is going to a season 4…look at the viewer numbers from season 1 til season 3 o_O…..i guess Disney really wants a marvel show to run on their channel…Maybe they should do a marvel movie preview special every week to get more viewers
It was never going to maintain them numbers, all shows start big for premiere then drop fast then slower but hopefully AoS has finally found it’s comfortable position. It has basically levelled out since S3 Ep12. Also DVRs 7 Days+, Binge-Watching, Foreign Viewership And Recent New Viewership Interest Are HUGE. Hopefully the show will finally get the credit it deserves in S4 with ratings and viewership. Everyone who enjoys the show PLZ persuade others to watch. I created Global_Marvel on Twitter and have encouraged a significant amount to watch. They absolutely love it now, Non-viewers just need a bit of… Read more »
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is losing viewers because its at 9 o’clock and some people aren’t awake at that time.
9 pm lol how old are you? i thought the show airs at 8 anyways i have a 4 year old nephew who’s bed time is 9 pm. It’s 2016 bruh
this series is awful and way to much NuInhuman focus it causing viewers to drop off
I’m pro Agents of SHIELD. The writing, casting and acting is as good as anyone has a write to expect or hope for. It’s asking too much for the show to be as good as Marvel films week to week. I guess what the middling success of this demonstrates is the power of colorful costumes combined with good writing and acting, which the movies have.
Ever take an instant dislike to someone for no apparent reason? For some reason I took against Brett Dalton from the very beginning. There is something about him that just irritates/creeps the heck out of me.
He put me off so much I stopped watching. Then I heard he had left the show, so I was considering tuning back in only to hear that he is still there.
Is he still on the show full time?
yes he is still on the show as a main character
Thanks for the info. Guess I wont be watching the show anytime soon then!
Well you can come back now 😛
Still there but high chance of being killed off for Season Finale, Best Show…
If you don’t like him you probably won’t like the show overall because he’s still there. I totally know how you feel I hated him from the first time i saw him also. I just put up with it and I’m glad I did. Honestly it’s worth another shot, even with him there.
I love this series.renew pls.
Already Renewed for Season 4….

This show is Honestly Amazing. Tbh ok S1, potential S2, Pure EPIC S3… Can not advice you all strongly enough to START WATCHING this show or jump back in if you were an early drop-out in S1. The plotlines, dynamics and character developments are unparalleled now to any other show. WATCH S3 Ep15, this will surely help your decision making before the much anticipated S3 Ep17 “The Team” next Tuesday (19th April). ALSO Plz try to watch Live as this helps helps with the ratings as many viewers watch after deadline to be included in tally.
Season 4 Already Confirmed….
I never miss Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Sure, its not as exciting as most MARVEL movies; but, the idea of AoS is to tie all the movies together into one timeline and universe and give knowledge of whats happening during the time between the blockbuster movies. In addition, AoS builds a backstory (if you pay attention) for those movies. I personally can not wait for Skye, aka Daisy Johnson, aka “Tremors” to realize her full potential and become “Quake”.
Coverage of the Republican and Democrat Primaries are the cause of the drop. The network has already renewed the show so there really isn’t a story here. Sorry.
I don’t think so. The ratings have been falling for a long time…since before last September. That isn’t primaries coverage causing that drop. The show is just boring. The current chart shows a peak at 1.72 and now it is at .9 while the viewership has fallen from 4.9 million to 2.9 million…that is a steep fall.
3A was really steady 1.3/1.4 until the hiatus hit. Either people really didn’t like Brett Dalton or the 3 month hiatus really screwed it up.
They need to get more viewing with Marvels Thor, Seth, Captain, America, Agent Romanoff , the Silver surfer and start winning a few.
agent of shield is and will be a ridiculous show, don’t know where the writers are coming from I watched a couple episodes time it began, I still don’t know who the enemy and who the friends, someone going to have to tell me who they are shielding beside themselves, they are not even doing a good job at that, the ratings keep dropping, I know they will keep it on longer with a lower rating than they would lot of other shows do to Walt Disney Studios which owns ABC, myself they canceled some of the better shows , which… Read more »
” I still don’t know who the enemy and who the friends” well with such bad English of course you won’t. I’m not even a native speaker! It’s not confusing at all!
NOT LOOKING GOOD. YOU’D THINK PEOPLE WOULD BE MORE INTERESTED IN THE INHUMANS STORYLINE AS MARVEL HAVE A MOVIE COMING OUT OR ARE WE NOW SEEING THE FIRST SIGNS OF SUPERHERO FATIGUE.
Superhero fatigue is a Conspiracy Theory with no evidence to support it. The show had a lousy start and is having a hard time re-gaining that audience. None of this is due to that crackpot theory, sometimes Superhero shows do better than others
The fall was in season 1 because people had different expectations for the show. After that, season 2 became very consistent around 1.4 – 1.7.
Turned it off after they had to shove PC BS down our throats. What possible contribution to the plot did it make to have the inhuman portrayed as gay? Last year they took a cheap shot at Fox. I’m done. Why does the left feels the need to insult half their viewership? It is a triumph of ideology over common sense. Cancellation…not that they care…is imminent.
Ok. So, firstly it’s not PC BS. This is the first LGBT character to ever appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That’s 7 years of totally no representation at all. It wasn’t shoved down your throat. He happens to be gay. People are. Get over it. This show has easily got another season in it (ABC love 88 episodes for syndication.) so even if the ratings fall, which is now unlikely as it’s getting rave reviews across the board, it’ll still be around another year or so. But I for one am glad you switched off, it just means one… Read more »
Typical response from <3% Gestapo chorus. Pathetic! BTW…"He happens to be gay." He is a FICTIONAL character…not gay…FICTIONAL…designed to advance the leftist ideology…not the plot.
Seriously?
What are you, a caveman?
You’re just going to have to get used to there being different kinds of people, pal. It’s 2015.
I live in England mate, under a RIGHT wing government, who approved gay marriage:
We’re the 100%. No one is trying to push an agenda, just showing that different CHARACTERS are fine and normal.
In the end, your way of thinking is dying out, so please throw out whatever insults you can. It’ll have no effect on me or how I feel. You attack with aggression, I’m leaving you with love. Peace out dude, try and take a chill pill and realise that anyone can love anyone.
And in the end, that’s the reality, and you can’t fight reality.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Excellent responses.
Of course they are, he’s The Doctor
Rightwing government where in western Europe?
They won’t cancel it till after season 5 because that own it and cheap production cost but your right pc craps bad acting and writing suck all around.
