The ride is almost over. FX has announced that the upcoming fifth season of Mayans MC will be the show’s last. The fourth season of the Sons of Anarchy spin-off finished airing in June of last year.
A gritty biker drama created by Elgin James and Kurt Sutter, the Mayans MC TV show stars JD Pardo, Clayton Cardenas, Edward James Olmos, Danny Pino, Carla Baratta, Michael Irby, Raoul Max Trujillo, Richard Cabral, Emilio Rivera, Sarah Bolger, Frankie Loyal, Joseph Lucero, and Vincent Vargas. The story follows the life of Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes (Pardo), a member of the Mayans M.C. charter on the California/Mexico border. Once the golden boy with the American Dream in his grasp, EZ, his brother Angel (Cardenas), and the rest of the Santo Padre M.C. face retaliation from other chapters after a failed attempt to align under one King. Meanwhile, EZ and Angel have grown distant from their father Felipe (Olmos) after a heart-wrenching betrayal.
The fourth season of Mayans MC averaged a 0.19 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 607,000 viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). Compared to season three, that’s down by 24% in the demo and down by 19% in viewership.
Last July, Mayans MC was renewed for its upcoming fifth season and, at the time, Nick Grad, President of Original Programming for FX Entertainment, said in a statement, “The Mayans have battled for respect, territory and power through four intense seasons that have set the stage for an explosive fifth season that will test their very survival under ‘EZ’s’ newly claimed leadership. Elgin James and the creative team, the brilliant cast, crew and our partners at 20th Television have kept fans coming back for more and we are ready to take that ride with them for another season.”
Today, FX Content and FX Productions chairman John Landgraf announced that season five would mark the end of the drama. The reveal wasn’t much of a surprise since James has said that he knew how Mayans MC would finish.
“We know where it ends,” he told Variety at the red carpet premiere of season four. “I know the very last shot. So, it’s not in season four, so I’m just going to say, there at least has to be one more. But we know exactly where it ends, and we have been headed there for a while now.”
Season five will air at some point this year. The first two seasons aired in the fall, while seasons three and four aired in the spring.
What do you think? Have you kept up with the Mayans MC TV series? Are you disappointed to hear that this FX show is ending with season five, or does that feel like the right time? Would you have stuck around for season six?
Great series. Hate that it’s been cancelled.
We get a good show and it always gets canceled!!
For me this serie is a great one, no question about that. But when the channels or TV-companies are so enormously slow in publishing new seasons that is the pure death of the actual serie. For me to wait a whole year is the very same as I have gone on in my life, forgotten all about the great serie and focus on another one, maybe on a different TV-channel… When it is that far in between the seasons, that for me is actually stupid and lack of thinking…. But the serie was great and kept me looking…
I agree with you completely. There is far too much time that passes between new seasons. It really has become the kiss of death for excellent shows to be canceled prematurely.
Very sorry to hear this is the last season. I myself record this show to watch in peace a day or two later. I think they need to count recordings as watches. SOA was missed, and this show filled in for it. Just wish they would continue this series. The biker world has been around for a long time and there seem to be endless stories to be told. Not to mention the cartel activity which is accelerating north of the border…
Disney buys FX they fire Kurt Sutter so Of course the show went down hill Because he made A joke about Disney world Hopefully he’ll get to start one of his new SOA reboots if they hire Kurt back
No I don’t want it to end, absolutely loved it great cast and written well, could easily go for 2 or 3 more. Hope it don’t leave a giant hole in this. Need a great ending
Yes. Keep it coming!!
Please keep this show going!! I look so forward to watching this when they are on. I have been watching from the onset of the show. I am sure you can do seasons 6,7,8,9,10 and so on. You will definitely have the audience for them. I will be extremely disappointed if the Mayans do not continue after season 5. Is such a great show! I can’t wait for the next weeks show!!!!!!!
Sorry to hear it’s fin.i would of loved ever season to wath it always looked forward to watching mayans
It can’t stop at season 5! Wtf is that the story isn’t done not by a long shot!!
Looks like they are saying that it is from low ratings. I have such a hard time believing that. This show is fantastic and it makes me wonder how the rating statistics are compiled. The show comes on at 10:00 at night, so I rarely ever watch it when it airs. I almost always watch it the next day but that obviously doesn’t count for their rating system. It looks like they are still using the old Nielsen rating system where people watch the shows live, back before DVRs were such a thing. There are almost no shows that I… Read more »
My sentiments exactly.
Too bad it’s ending so soon, I feel like there’s at least a couple good seasons worth of stories with Ez as president. Not to mention that there’s literally no way to effectively wrap up all the loose threads so to speak in one season. At least not without sacrificing detail
Great series with fabulous acting and storyline. It’s ridiculous to have to wait so long for this season to begin but it really should be renewed for more seasons. Great show!
I thought it would’ve ended at least till season 7 like SOA did I would’ve stuck around and watch it for that long!
Yeah it was getting unreal. I thought they were going to concur whole country and beat police, army, CIA, NSA, President…..
No!!!!
This show jumped the shark when EZ killed his ex girlfriend, then assumed control of the club.
