What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the FOX television network, The Orville stars Seth MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, Halston Sage, J Lee, and Mark Jackson. The sci-fi action-adventure series centers on Captain Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane), of The U.S.S. Orville, and First Officer Kelly Grayson (Palicki) — his ex-wife. Whether facing off with the Krill, a dangerous alien race, or attempting rescues on behalf of the Planetary Union, the human and alien crew still must deal with their mundane issues and each other.
Season Two Ratings
The second season of The Orville averaged a 0.75 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.16 million viewers. Compared to season one, that is down by 40% and 27%, respectively. Find out how The Orville stacks up against the other FOX TV shows.
The Orville has been renewed for a third season. However, the series is moving to Hulu. Season three will debut on June 2, 2022. Stay tuned for further updates.

Will The Orville be cancelled or renewed for season three? Right now, it is too soon to judge by the ratings, but I am sure FOX will pick up another installment, because it has been approved to receive California tax incentives for a third season. Remember, entertainment aside, television is a numbers game, and the most important numbers involve money. Still, I’ll keep an eye on the Nielsens and update this page with any breaking developments. It can be the best thing on TV……but if it can only get 2.5 million a week to watch, it may be in trouble.

I watched the first season and it was “MEH”. I then TRIED to watch to 2nd season and just couldn’t do it. The episodes about Pee and gay love was just uncomfortable and lacked all entertainment. It’s neither a drama nor a comedy yet makes a effort and being both and fails miserably. I love Seth McFarlane but this one needs to go away.
The first season I loved how they were balanced on touchy social issues like gender reassignment on an infant or social media upvoting as judgment of people in society. However like you first couple of season 2 episodes were a turnoff heavy handed vulgar and gay love robot sex etc. I think they turned a corner though since the two part Kaylon episode they seem to have left the comedy and tried to be more the classic Star Trek show that Star Trek has abandoned. If they stay on this track, they should definitely be renewed.
My husband and I love the Orville. Please renew it. It seems we have less and less reason to watch Fox. Last year we were disappointed to lose Lucifer but will thankfully watch it on Netflix.
It’s an amazing show. It better get renewed.
After watching episode 12 of season 2 last night, they would be insane to not renew. This show has hit a perfect stride. The last 5 episodes have actually been so dead perfect, that the show has gone to the top of my must watch list.
Really hope this show gets renewed. Love it. SETH MacFarlane has a gem here. Great writing this season, a great balance of everything.

The show is awesome it’s what Star Trek failed to do when it put out that horrible series years ago, so bad I don’t even remember the name (enterprise ?) Please don’t cancel it I know many people in my area (Vancouver) are watching because there’s a button you can click for Shaw that shows what shows most people are watching and Orville was on the list, actually twice one for Fox and it was on a Canadian channel at the same time ! I didn’t care much for Enterprise myself but it’s a little difficult to determine which one you mean by a few years ago lol, because there was also Voyager and Deep Space Nine (Next Gen spin-off). I like Janeway and Sisko of their respective series. Enterprise was eh. Still haven’t seen Discovery. But I have digressed, I LOVE the Orville, it’s hard for me to say as a hardcore fan of Star Trek (os), but the Orville is better on every front. It’s strange that this question is being asked – will it be renewed or cancelled? – because another website is reporting that it was given an “internal” renew for season 3 by Fox just before season 2 aired. Hmmmmm…
It will surely be renewed but hasn’t been renewed yet. In my experience, some sites like to pretend they have exclusive information when they do not.
i love the Orville ”it is the best” it has drama, real life crises, and its funny i give it a 10 one way i can tell that a lot of people like it is when i down load it on my Kodi there is like 300 or more providers to load it from when there is a bad tv show i wont say no names or movies there is only like 8 to 10 some times 30 or 40 providers this show 300 or more like the 2 days after airing I LOVE THE ORVILLE PLEASE PLEASE LET THERE… Read more »
I love this show. It fills a void for really well made scifi, regardless of it being comedy. The newest Star Trek show sucks. I wish they would go forward instead of going backwards or sideways from the older story lines.
The Orville is the perfect replacement for a Trekker who is missing the good stuff from the Trekverse. Also the perfect replacement for missing sequels of Galaxy Quest.
I hope this show goes on for at least 5 years.
It’s very entertaining. [Long sentence warning] As my interests also include the Star Trek shows and movies, the diverse “aliens” and their ways and personalities say so much about the way people views others who are different from themselves and those they know. Seeing how they “work and play well” with each other, though there are definite cultural differences, emotions and causes for emotions, still remain…..the same as [us]*.
