In August of last year, Starz renewed Outlander for a second season after only one episode of the series had aired. Now, there are rumors that season two has been cancelled. What’s going on?
The Outlander series revolves around Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), a married combat nurse from 1945. She finds herself mysteriously thrown back in time, to 1743 Scotland, and forced to marry another man to save her life. A passionate affair is ignited. The rest of the cast includes Sam Heughan, Tobias Menzies, Graham McTavish, Gary Lewis, Annette Badland, Stephen Walters, Laura Donnelly, Lotte Verbeek, James Fleet, Duncan Lacroix, Roderick Gilkison, Simon Callow, Grant O’Rourke, Bill Paterson, and Simon Meacock.
As fans of the series know all too well, Outlander is currently on hiatus. Starz decided to split the first season’s 16 episodes into two groups. The first eight finished airing in late September and the second set will begin running on April 4th. It’s a long wait but the Outlander TV show will certainly be back.
While the show doesn’t draw big ratings, it’s doing very well for Starz. The audience grew quite a bit over the course of the first eight episodes. The mid-season finale drew 1.42 million viewers — nearly twice as many as watched the series debut. Networks and cable channels really like to see that kind of trend.
It seems that the cancellation rumor stems from a site called National Report which creates fictional stories with just enough credible information in them to make them believeable.
Starz has not cancelled their plans for a second season of Outlander. The cable channel is heavily promoting the second half of the first season and Outlander author Diana Gabaldon has also confirmed that the cancellation is a hoax.
This month, executive producer Ronald D. Moore confirmed that filming of season two will begin in May. The story will take some of the characters to another country but production will continue to be based in Scotland.
Here’s a preview for the rest of season one, as well as a preview scene:
What do you think? Are you looking forward to the return of Outlander?
I sure hope not one of the best shows on tv they have such great chemistry I have watched it over and over cant get enough of it
I LOVE this series and if it’s cancelled so does my STARZ subscription! It’s beautifully written and well-rounded characters are superb!
In general I just love the show and look forward to seeing it but the second season and even more the only drawback was the homosexual part of one of the last series of episodes need to need to keep that out thank you
The series closely follows the books. The rape of Jaime was a very important part of the story line.
Cancel this show. The male on male rape did it for me. Will never watch this show again.
I could not belive it when I found Outlander was being made into a tv series.I am now watching it on Amazon Prime limiting myself to one episode a day. It is superb I don’t think I have even watched a serries, based on a book so well done . I have read the whole series of books and am so pleased that a second seriss is to be made
Cancel outlander. It sucks badly.
I have read all the books in the series and now some of the side stories and truly can not put them down. I love how history and love are combined. It is fun to think about going back in time. And now seeing the TV series how great and it does stay true to the book. I have watched the different eposides numerous times and continue to do so what a love story. I am sooooo glad to hear it will continue to the second series (second book). Keep it going I would love to see all the books… Read more »
Season 1 had its ups and downs, but I kept watching as I’ve been strongly interested in the whole Jacobite topic for many years, and the time travel and small promises of a complex plotline (like the wrist watch…) were a nice approach. However, in the end the story took a completely wrong turn, and the season finale was the worst I ever saw, sacrificing every last bit of credibility and logic for an (intended) Game-of-Thrones style “cruel twist” which ended up being nothing but disgusting and ridiculous. I’ll not bother to watch season 2.
It’s a very good love story show, very well directed and so life-like. I am glad it’s not cancelled and am looking forward to when it comes back on. I enjoy the near reality of it all and how the people lived like back in those days; the culture and all that and of how women were treated as second class among the men. It tells us a lot of what it’s taken for women to get to where they are today. It’s just so good and fits all in with everything as shown which could be a good history… Read more »
I can’t wait. This production crew is doing a magnificent job, staying within rifle range of the “good as it is” book.
Yes there is nudity but it isn’t any more graphic than other programs. I to read the books and it is an awesome love story between Jamie and Claire. I can’t wait to see how next season is done.
I hope this porno flick is canceled. There is enough trash on TV. The story line is good but if I wanted to see naked people I have a mirror. II think this it is crude and crass and if they would rid it of the trashy parts it could go somewhere.
I’ve read this entire series long before I heard it would be a series on Starz. I got Starz only to see it. PLEASE DO NOT cancel it. It it a great story. This story could go on for years if we get enough fans.
It is the same for me, the only reason I have Starz.
This show rocks, STARZ does NOT need to cancel this show. It is such an over the top love story I find myself totally lost in it when it is on, to the point of not answering the phone or door. I don’t easily cry in shows but fine myself doing so, as well as, laughing at times, you can help getting wrapped up with Jamie and Claire’s life. After watching both volumes of season one I’m sooo ready to visit Scotland. I would love to get on horseback and ride through the country side. High Fives to the director… Read more »
