What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the Showtime premium cable channel, Shameless stars William H. Macy as Frank Gallagher, a neglectful, alcoholic father of six. His resilient, self-reliant kids scramble to survive without Frank’s guidance. The cast also includes Emmy Rossum, Ethan Cutkosky, Shanola Hamptom, Jeremy Allen White, Steve Howey, Emma Kenney, Cameron Monaghan, Isidora Goreshter, and Christian Isaiah. This year, recurring guest stars include Jessica Szohr, Faran Tahir, Elliot Fletcher, and Scott Michael Campbell.
In Shameless, season eight, Franks lays off the drugs and decides to work for a living. Meanwhile, Fiona (Rossum) realizes her success as a landlord comes at a price for others. As Lip (White) struggles with sobriety’s sacrifices, Ian (Monaghan) wants to win back Trevor (Fletcher), and Debbie (Kenney) juggles single motherhood with work and welding school. After losing his scholarship, Carl (Cutkosky) has to find another way to finance his tuition, while Liam (Isaiah) starts to understand how different his family is from those of his schoolmates. In addition, Kev (Howey) and V (Hampton) look for a way to handle things with Svetlana (Goreshter), after she swipes their bar, The Alibi.
Season Eight Ratings
The eighth season of Shameless averaged a 0.54 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.50 million viewers. Compared to season seven, that’s even in the demo and up by 6% in viewers. Learn how Shameless stacks up against the other Showtime TV shows.

Telly’s Take
For a while, it looked like Shameless might be cancelled after its seventh season. Fortunately for fans (and sadly, for my stomach), Showtime and star Emmy Rossum came to terms regarding her demands for pay parity. It’s still too early to assess the eight season numbers to predict whether Showtime will cancel or renew it for season nine. For now, I’ll keep an eye on the Nielsens, skim my takeout menus, and update this page with breaking developments. Subscribe for free updates on any Shameless cancellation or renewal news.
11/8/17 update: Shameless has been renewed for season nine on Showtime. Details here. That was awfully quick. On the other hand, it leaves me plenty of time to make other dinner plans.
