MTV is trying something new with the fantasy series The Shannara Chronicles. Will their gamble pay off and bring big ratings or will it flop? Cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.
Set millennia in the future, The Shannara Chronicles follows three unlikely heroes — a human, an elf princess, and a human-elf — on their quest to thwart a demonic army. The cast includes Ivana Baquero, Manu Bennett, Emilia Burns, Austin Butler, Poppy Drayton, Aaron Jakubenko, Daniel MacPherson, and John Rhys-Davies.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.

What do you think? Do you like The Shannarra Chronicles TV show? Do you think that it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Bring it back!!!!!!
Being reported 0.30 earlier today. Cancellation city here it comes. Horrible writing, horrible directing, horrible acting, and just plain bad. They should have stuck with the books, this is nothing like Elfstones.
Just thought I’d point out that MTV’s Scream had it’s first season this year with worse ratings on average and it got a renewal, so don’t go celebrating just yet bud. I’ve been reading the Shannarra series since I was 11, and a Brooks fan ever since. I do have my issues with the changes, but I don’t find any of them to be so terrible at this point that I feel the need to stop watching. To be fair, there have been worse adaptations from book to screen than this, and I really wish people would stop with the… Read more »
I read the Sword of Shannara when I was 11 and got the Elfstones on release day, so? They were good books, this ain’t it. There is no change/s as this has nothing to do with the books I read other than some of the characters names are the same and huge storylines. Actually, not sure, if I have seen a worse adaptation, to be honest, like I said I don’t even think this was an adaptation. There is nothing unreal about my expectations, I turned the stupid show off, whatever this was/is. My guess, a cancellation notice fairly soon,… Read more »
1. I re-read the Elfstones this month, and your assessment that the show has nothing to do with the books is simply wrong. There are differences, but they are not significant enough to give your claim any basis in reality.
2. If you look at the ratings lineup for MTV, Shannarra Chronicles is the second highest rated show they are airing, spots 4 and 5 have been renewed, while spot 3 was completed, not cancelled. Based purely on the ratings, Shannarra Chronicles stands more than a fair chance at renewal.

I have read Elfstones probably north of 12 times, no sir, all this has in it is some character names that are the same, place names that are the same and the overall plot of demons breaking the forbidden. Anyone that has read the books will tell you it has nothing to do with this teen wanna be show. The sub-plots were basically all destroyed, characters and character development which has been replaced with some very strange teen show which I doubt even most teen could stomach.
Name a book to screen adaptation that is worse than this? Legend of the Seeker doesn’t count :). I personally can’t think of one.
Agreed, Legend of the Seeker doesn’t count, while that series had a ton of changes, it is the reason I read the books. The books were WAY better, but the show had a lot going for it. As to your challenge, Eragon.
Definitely Dune was the worse in history!! Yet it was watchable. I have not read the Shannara books, but thoroughly enjoyed watching the series.
Ivana Baquero , the best of the show!
Seems most shows hardly get a chance to get a following or even get into the real “meat ” of the show, before it’s pulled. Sometimes, shows need time to develop the characters. Hope they give this show a chance.
I didn’t realize how bad this show was doing. I’m glad because I hate it. The numbers are terrible. YAY!!!!!
Best show ever pls dont ever cancel
I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! I think the actors are perfect and I can’t e
Wait for the next show. please do not cancel this show….its best thing MTV has done…
Well the screen writers have jettisoned most of the book so far, to its total detriment I may add, but I cannot imagine Brooks has sold out to the extent that he allows a completely different ending, but you never know. Anyway its utter garbage what has been delivered so far; basically it’s as if they have visually skimmed over his series of books and compressed them all on too one page; not only that these books were written in the manner that adults would appreciate and they have reduced them to the I.Q level that only pre-adolescent girls would… Read more »
I couldn’t agree more. I hate what they did with this. Your opinion about the pre-adolescent girls thing is spot on. Thank you.
I hope you don’t mind but I copied and pasted this to another site. I gave you credit. I just thought it was perfectly said.
The Elfstones was a very good book, this ain’t it. Horrible show, ratings reflect the reality, it’s bad. Save us all, cancel it.
Love the show. It’s a little odd for MTV and I don’t always like the MTV taint, namely sex, partial nudity, promotion of homosexuality etc etc. Nevertheless the story is engrossing and true to the spirit of Terry Brooks work. I hope it gets renewed
Please do not cancel. It’s one of the best shows on now.
If the first six episodes were like the seventh, then the season would have been excellent. At this moment, if the remaining three episodes can match or surpass the seventh, then it will have held it’s head above water; and let’s have a second season.
Unfortunately, 10 episodes just don’t do the books justice at all.
I dont watch MTV at all, but a friend of mine showed me the first episode and I immediately bought the season from Google play! My wife and I both enjoy it because it is something that keeps you watching and not filled with pornography and limitless swearing. My 17 year old son is a Lord of the Rings fan and will love this series. I hope they continue the seasons!
One word. Poppy!!!!
This is my favorite series on T.V. currently! I’m so glad that MTV is getting into the fantasy genre! I really hope they continue producing it!
