TV show description:
From Emily Kapnek, and based on the Danish TV series, Bedre Skilt end Aldrig, the Splitting Up Together TV show is a comedy inspired by the idea of “Bird Nesting.” In this co-parenting approach, divorcing parents design their new living arrangements to allow the children to remain in the family home, in order to minimize disruption to the kids’ lives.
Once upon a time, Lena (Fischer) and Martin (Hudson), were deeply in love. As sometimes happens, life and everything that fills it, sucked the romance from their marriage, until they were just roommates, with children in common.
Where Lena feels she took on the lion’s share of the burden with the house and kids, it seems to Martin even his best efforts failed, so he just stopped trying. Now, they have arrived at the conclusion that everyone would be happier if they divorced.
Wanting what is best for their three children, Mason (Crosby), Mae (Keville), and Milo (Thomas), Lena and Martin decide to “Bird Nest,” rather than sell their house. Since they’re still underwater on their mortgage, it’s not like they have much of a choice, anyhow.
Now, when Lena is “on duty” with the kids, Mason will live in the garage, and vice versa. As they switch off, from week to week, they start to get a clearer picture of what the other person brought to the home and family. They also start to better see their own short-comings.
Will splitting up together reignite their love and bring them back together, or is this new normal? Stay tuned.
Series Finale:
Episode #26, “Welcome Home”
Milo complains that Grandparents Day is coming up at school and doesn’t feel Henry is interesting enough to participate. Lena and the kids urge Martin to reconnect with his long-estranged father, Brock (guest star Ron Perlman), to rebuild their relationship. Meanwhile, Lisa continues to struggle financially and considers moving back home with her parents. Elsewhere, after listening to a true crime podcast, Maya worries that Frank has a dark past he has been hiding .
First aired: April 9, 2019
What do you think? Do you like the Splitting Up Together TV series? Should this ABC TV show have been cancelled or renewed for season three?
I looked forward to watching Splitting Up Together, very disappointed that it has been cancelled. Great cast and genuine personalities. Shame on ABC for taking it off the air and keeping some sitcoms that are not entertaining at all.
Disappointed it’s been canceled, i thought it was hillarious
I loved this show
I loved this show
I thought it was a great sitcom that was funny and thought provoking. Loved all of the actors.
Absolutely loved Splitting Up Together. Smart, fun, clever. The dentist episode was hysterical!!!
I think splitting up together should be renewed not canceled here we go again That’s another ABC cancellation. Splitting up is probably the only comedy I like or watch. Again the 18 to 49 year olds aren’t the ones that are watching it’s the 49 year olds and up that watch. Nielsen ratings need to be scrapped. Find a different way 2 monitor who watches what. take a vote, include all TV watchers. Get a true reading of who watches what!
Please bring back Splitting Up Together and Whiskey Cavalier!!! Two great shows!!!
Throw in The Chew too and that would be ideal!
ABC Shame on you no wonder the pole shows that your network cancels the most viewer watched shows. The few I just don’t get are Splitting up & Whiskey Cavalier what you don’t listen to your viewers? Network Officials should read these viewers comments for a start! These 2 shows have a great cast they are FUNNY . My friends and I looked forward to watching these shows and talking about them. This show according to your charts had more viewers then several shows you renewed scripted & non scripted! Maybe you need to step up LISTEN to your viewers… Read more »

Those that have posted here, Love it!
Should have renewed Splitting Up Together. I loved it. 52 My father used to own an ABC affiliate Many times ABC executive thought they knew what was right and always pick the wrong shows. They loved Kings Crossing and I knew it was not going to work and they told me we were wrong- my sister and I, and it was – flop. This is a great series. I think you guys made another mistake!
ABC you are getting rid of all of your good shows this is not good.
REALLY! ABC you have a good show a great cast truly funny show and you cancel what’s up? I was so happy to see Oliver Hudson in another comedy. Love that Lindsay Price also was in this show . Both couples brought a funny friendship and a cool dynamic to show. My friends and I love to talk about the episodes really think you should not cancel this show. Your network needs a fresh comedy like this !
I love “splitting up together”! I watch it all the time on Hulu. Things are getting more and more interesting. Air another season to see how it goes.
Talk about destroying a good show. What the heck happened that they got Lisa Apple pregnant and part of the family. They had the best pretext, Jenna Fischer and Martin (don’t know real name) were magic. The sour little daughter and the pregnant sister were downers, but it would still have remained my ultra favorite. Lisa Apple bit—I’ve become a hater of Hollywood Kardashian crap. For a second, you had a great show. Then, Hollywood values stepped in. I’m done if Lisa Apple stays, it’s too bizarre. Asking the kids to accept this? C’mon!!
