CBS cancelled SWAT at the end of last week. Series star Shemar Moore (above) did not waste any time before speaking out about the police drama’s abrupt cancellation. *Status update below.
Also starring Alex Russell, Jay Harrington, Kenny Johnson, David Lim, and Patrick St. Esprit, the SWAT series was inspired by the 1975 TV show and the 2003 film of the same name. The story follows the Special Weapons And Tactics unit of the Los Angeles Police Department.
In recent weeks, the renewal of the series seemed all but assured. Talks were ongoing, and the only issue was the licensing fee from Sony Pictures TV. According to Moore, the cast was also assured, week after week, that a seventh-season renewal would happen.
Moore said the following about the cancellation of the CBS series, per THR:
“It makes no sense. We’ve done nothing wrong. We did everything that was asked for.
SWAT is the most diverse show on CBS. CBS, when I got hired to be Hondo on SWAT, was getting a lot of flak for lack of diversity. If I post this, and I think I might, I will get in a lot of trouble with CBS because I’m calling them out. Because they’ve been wonderful to me for 26 out of my 29-year career. But to abruptly get told that you’re canceled when you led us to believe last week — and the week before, and the week before that — that we would have some semblance of a season seven to at least say goodbye, if not continue. And to abruptly be told, ‘You’re done.’
I will be fine, but I’m upset because I busted my whole entire a** to prove that I could do this, and I did prove that I could do this. I understand it’s not personal — it’s business — but I still have faith that SWAT will live to see another day. So I’m asking my homies, my fans and my baby girls, and the rest of the world who follow me or follow the show, follow the cast, my brothers and my sisters: Make some noise. And let them know that canceling SWAT is a mistake.”
The sixth season of SWAT ends on May 19th.
What do you think? Do you want to see a seventh season of SWAT? Do you want another network to pick up this series?
*Update: The CBS series has been revived and renewed for a seventh and final season.
KEEP SWAT going one of best series
Big Mistake!!!!!
Do not cancel SWAT!!! Or hopefully, another network will pick it up. I love the show.
Big mistake to cancel SWAT! I have followed Shemar Moore since his days on Criminal Minds, so I knew SWAT would be great! Why don’t you cancel other shows that are not so good & keep the good one on. Why is everything all about money????? I am a fan & I love this show, please reconsider and keep it on TV!
It’s total ******** that a great show is being cancelled. The stupid shows they keep on and on and on. Sure wish another station would rescue Swat.
I have watched SWAT each season. I love the show, they have always had stories that mirrored real life issues. I feel like something isn’t right the way the show got canceled so abruptly
I don’t even watch SWAT, but its rather crazy to me a show that actually went up in the ratings got cancelled.
I hope some other network picks up SWAT & continues this outstanding show. I love to watch the characters ion this show. Please keep it going!!!
SWAT is a huge part of Friday night TV with Fire Country and Blue Bloods filling it out.CBS please renew Swat. There is nothing to replace it with that Fits so well!!
I can’t believe they cancelled Swat. It is one of the best shows out there. I loved it on Thursday night and when they moved it to Friday’s thought for sure it wouldn’t do well. But I was proved wrong when it thrived. The story lines are well thought out, the characters have such a good rapport which makes it even better to watch. You would be crazy to uphold this crazy notion to keep this show cancelled. Bring it back. No, then come on another network pick it because it is well worth the money and time to keep… Read more »
Dear CBS, nearly 80 % of the shows I watch are on CBS. WHAT THE HECK are you thinking canceling SWAT! This one if the best shows on CBS . DO NOT MAKE me go to another network. You already cancelled MAGNUM PI, GUESS WHAT, I Switched networks to follow MAGNUM. You had a good thing going DONT MAKE ME SWITCH!
CBS needs to get a clue. I’m going to miss SWAT. Love the entire cast and characters. IMO, the plots are quite original. Not predictable like a lot of cops and robbers shows.
It is getting really tiring of good shows like this getting cancelled. I am hoping that another network will pick it up. I would hate to see it end.
You Go, Shemar! The show is very entertaining and has a great cast of actors. CBS please renew for at least another year! They deserve a closure. Thank you!
OMG!!! CBS what are you thinking???? This is and has been over the years a fantastic show. The cast get along great, the stories are wonderful and the characters are humanly relatable to everyone. Your writers of this show are very talented and should be paid more. WHY would you cancel a fantastic show, as it makes no sense at all. CBS you really need to reverse your decision and RENEW your show SWAT.
