CBS cancelled SWAT at the end of last week. Series star Shemar Moore (above) did not waste any time before speaking out about the police drama’s abrupt cancellation. *Status update below.
Also starring Alex Russell, Jay Harrington, Kenny Johnson, David Lim, and Patrick St. Esprit, the SWAT series was inspired by the 1975 TV show and the 2003 film of the same name. The story follows the Special Weapons And Tactics unit of the Los Angeles Police Department.
In recent weeks, the renewal of the series seemed all but assured. Talks were ongoing, and the only issue was the licensing fee from Sony Pictures TV. According to Moore, the cast was also assured, week after week, that a seventh-season renewal would happen.
Moore said the following about the cancellation of the CBS series, per THR:
“It makes no sense. We’ve done nothing wrong. We did everything that was asked for.
SWAT is the most diverse show on CBS. CBS, when I got hired to be Hondo on SWAT, was getting a lot of flak for lack of diversity. If I post this, and I think I might, I will get in a lot of trouble with CBS because I’m calling them out. Because they’ve been wonderful to me for 26 out of my 29-year career. But to abruptly get told that you’re canceled when you led us to believe last week — and the week before, and the week before that — that we would have some semblance of a season seven to at least say goodbye, if not continue. And to abruptly be told, ‘You’re done.’
I will be fine, but I’m upset because I busted my whole entire a** to prove that I could do this, and I did prove that I could do this. I understand it’s not personal — it’s business — but I still have faith that SWAT will live to see another day. So I’m asking my homies, my fans and my baby girls, and the rest of the world who follow me or follow the show, follow the cast, my brothers and my sisters: Make some noise. And let them know that canceling SWAT is a mistake.”
The sixth season of SWAT ends on May 19th.
What do you think? Do you want to see a seventh season of SWAT? Do you want another network to pick up this series?
*Update: The CBS series has been revived and renewed for a seventh and final season.
Do not cancel SWAT!!! How dare you!!!???
I love SWAT and I can’t believe CBS is going to cancel it. It is one of the best shows on. I hope another network takes it on. I watch it every week and also reruns.
SWAT needs to continue on because of its many fans as well as fans of Shemar Moore and his fellow co workers. The show is inspiring and many of us get to live our lives through them of fighting crime or against the bad guys. It would be an injustice to cancel such a great show. No nonsense to do this after such great performance.
Great show!! Cancellation makes no sense
I enjoy watching Swat. I record it I can’t be home. I hope it will renewed on CBS or another network will pick it up. I am a 70+ woman and the show appeals to different ages and genders.
I’ve watch moore since he done young and restless to other shows he does great in his movie if cbs cancelled this show. Then I hope another station will pick up season seven.so please don’t cancel this show is good I watch it every Friday even when it was on Sunday. I like cops shows I watch cops shows all week
Long.
This is a great show. NBC is so quick to cancel show it’s almost like I might not watch NBC anymore. This is a great show and others two like Magnum PI that had to go to CBS because of issues with NBC and others.
Why out on a hood show to cancel it.
It’s ridiculous
SWAT needs to be continued somewhere, exactly as it is this season. If CBS is too stupid to see that let’s hope others are more intelligent and will pick it up.
Super big mistake . It’s a great show . I hope another channel picks it up . Bring back Swat.
This is a mistake. There is not that much on television to watch, I don’t get into reality shows at all. But to take away a good show is a big MISTAKE. Much love for the cast and prayers for you guy!
Swat is the BEST show on TV!! I have been watching this since the beginning!! These guys are great at what they do!! To lead this cast to believe there would be a 7 the season was terrible! I have also been a fan of Shemar Moore when he was Malcolm in Y & R! Make it right and bring us fans a 7 the season!!!
I hope that swat will get picked up by another network like Magnum P.I. did. Swat is a great show. It should be saved from cancellation.
My favorite
CBS IS DEAD WRONG on cancelling SWAT!…The programming director is on her own personal agenda….What a Shame!
Very sad and upset that SWAT had been cancelled. Please rethink your decision and bring back another season. PLEASE!
