When it comes to scripted TV shows, Syfy has had both hits and flops. Which of the current series will be cancelled or renewed for another season?
Syfy execs consider a lot of data when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series, but ratings are a major factor.
Scripted Syfy Network shows listed: 12 Monkeys, Aftermath, The Ark, Astrid & Lilly Save the World, Bitten, Blood Drive, Channel Zero, Childhood’s End, Chucky, Continuum, Dark Matter, Day of the Dead, Deadly Class, Defiance, Dominion, The Expanse, Ghost Wars, Happy!, Haven, Helix, Hunters, Incorporated, Killjoys, Krypton, Lost Girl, The Magicians, Nightflyers, Olympus, Reginald the Vampire, Resident Alien, Superstition, SurrealEstate, Vagrant Queen, Van Helsing, Wynonna Earp, and Z Nation.
Last updated: Most recent ratings added for The Ark.

A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released (usually a day or so after the broadcasts). The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
The demo numbers, which are typically most important to the broadcast networks, aren’t quite as vital to cable channels because their audiences are usually much smaller. Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking.
What do you think? Are you surprised by any of the ratings? Which shows should be doing better? Which one do you think will be cancelled next?
SciFi – SyFi – sould look at new shows as DVD / Streaming properties. With the goal of building at least a 3 season or 4 season product, up to 10 seasons. That way they can make sure good shows have a good following, and increase sales on DVD, BluRay, Amazon Video, Google Play, and iTunes. The ‘random’ format of TV is almost dead. Who has time to just sit and watch TV – NOW, people pick what they like and binge watch the whole thing, like reading a novel. Netflix data proves this is the growing and future trend… Read more »
I’m about 3 episodes into Season 2 of Dark Matter. It’s obvious why it dropped over 30%. They dropped two interesting characters, thinking they’re “going Joss Weedon” or something, and kept the ones with a convenient single dimension. Basically destroyed the dynamic that they spent the first season building. Kinda wish it wasn’t renewed so that I wouldn’t waste time on it.
The Expanse is one of the best shows on tv. There isnt a lot of advertisement for it, once word of it spreads then the ratings will jump big time.
I purchased season 1 of Expanse, only because DEFIANCE season 4 is … still in progress ;-). Expanse is good but just another war – flick in space. Defiance had more promise with linking the video game with the show, but so far they haven’t expanded the game Map to include the town of Defiance and the Arch. With VR Technology – Season 4 of Defiance could be done in game, and probably in 10 years you will not really need actual locations very much. Still use live actors for the main characters – but most everything else can be… Read more »
I EVEN BOUGHT THE WHOLE SEASON ON AMAZON,,,, I loved this show. I hope their accounting for all of the streaming that is done through Amazon and other streaming outlets and not just regular cable such as DirecTV and the like… Often it’s just more pleasurable for me to watch without commercials… As I’m disabled and bed-bound … So I will purchase the entire season and just binge watch it… I’ve done that with many shows so I sure as heck hope they take that type of thing into account… So many people do nothing but stream anymore whether it… Read more »
Why was Aftermath cancelled and flicking wynona Earp and van helsing renewed? I swear Syfy is becoming my least favorite network because they leave lousy shows on and cancel all the good ones. I really hope one of their sister networks picks it up, there is no other show with this storyline, just the same old ones that are nowhere near as good! JUST SAYING
The writing in Aftermath took a nose dive in the last few episodes of the season, enough so that it exceeded my forgiving tolerances for sci-fi programming. Neither Wynona Earp nor Van Helsing had this problem.
Incorporated is such a great show (I binged it in a day) I really really hope it gets renewed

Don’t see Face Off . Thought it was one f their most popular shows. Think they are on S-11. I
‘ve watched almost all; so obviously love it.
For cable, we only track scripted shows (comedies and dramas).
If you track what you want. How can we get a fair evaluation. Goes show you numbers and stats can are are so I wanted to be in that actually is .
Huh??
Simple, the s site only publishes shows that they fit worthy. Read the sentence it’s right there.
He stated that they only tracked scripted shows (written lines/scenes) as opposed to reality shows. My ‘Huh??’ was more for what you wrote here:
“Goes show you numbers and stats can are are so I wanted to be in that actually is .” which didn’t make a lot of sense.
Frankly speaking your bias. They did say they track shows (don’t matter what types) scripted for cable.
The Magicians is doing really well.
Continuum was not “Ended”, it was “Cancelled”. The writers had much more planned, but it got cancelled, so they “hurried along” the ending. Would be like saying that Eureka was “Ended” just because they gave us a few more episodes to TRY to tie things up.
I have been a fan of Z Nation from the very beginning. I like the charators and enjoyed the cheesy, campy stories and the one thing it has over the Walking Dead is an actual plot. Z Nation season 1 was spectacular fun. Season 2 must have been conceived while they were all under the influence of some super drugs. They killed key charators off and replaced them with trigger happy humorless morons. I’m waiting for season 3 to hit Netflix. If season 3 sucks balls as well, then I’m going to opt out. I love campy ham & cheese… Read more »
I wonder if TV execs are ever going to realize that with people living longer and acting younger, coupled with the second half of the baby boomers generation’s life long love of the sci fi and fantasy genre, 50 is the new 40 and 60 is the new 45. Add that to the fact that we actually have the disposable income to buy the stuff the advertisers are hawking..Perhaps they might want to finally expand that “coveted ” 18- 49 demographic. There is hope, I though..it only took them 10 years to begin to realize that viewership increased significantly when… Read more »
Sure am hoping that Aftermath gets renewed. Cerebral and engaging with believable characters and a cut above storyline.
seems like they never run a show over 5 se4asons and they have really only half seasons in addition. then they move them around one part season of haven was moved to 7 pm est i forget what day. ans several renewed with far worst ratings than the ones canceled
and i tried to see some on netflix some are there full series but most have 1 season or n/a and they rarely rerun on there own channel doesn’t;t make sense reruns used to be a way to make money after series ended
I am very disappointed that Hunters was cancelled. I read some hack’s review calling it “forgettable”. Funny – his name I’ve forgotten, but this show I found engaging and a viable plot. Seems SYFY, like too many other Studios aim for the lowest common denominator. How does a boring rehash of Van Helsing beat out a show like this or Aftermath? Just like the loss of Stargate Atlantis. Unexplainable.
I no longer watch the SYFY channel.
Can you tell us why? Mediocre shows with falling ratings that keep getting renewed? If you don’t write in like I do, the channel will keep thinking that they are doing a great job. The people who own SYFY also own USA and they will be renewing shows with pathetic ratings there also.
