What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the TNT cable channel, season two of The Alienist stars Daniel Brühl, Luke Evans, Dakota Fanning, Douglas Smith, Matthew Shear, Robert Ray Wisdom, Ted Levine, Melanie Field, and Rosy McEwen. The second season, aka Angel of Darkness, takes place in New York City in 1897 where Sara Howard (Fanning) has opened a pioneering private detective agency. She reunites with formidable alienist Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Brühl) and New York Times journalist John Moore (Evans) to find the kidnapped infant daughter of a Spanish dignitary. Their investigation leads them into a sinister path of corruption and deceit, towards a dangerous and elusive killer.
Season Two Ratings
The second season of The Alienist (aka Angel of Darkness) averaged a 0.20 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.04 million viewers. Compared to season one, that’s down by 52% in the demo and down by 41% in viewership. Find out how The Alienist stacks up against other TNT TV shows.

Will TNT cancel or renew The Alienist for season three? Angel of Darkness is based on the sequel novel by Caleb Carr. A third book has been published and a fourth, The Alienist at Armageddon, is in the works. So a third season could be based on one of those or, the producers could make an original story. TNT aired two episodes a week and season two’s ratings were quite low so, there’s a good chance there won’t be a third season anyway. I’ll update this page with breaking developments. This is a superbly cast production. The characters are complex and their backgrounds explored in flashbacks that integrate seamlessly into the story. The incorporation of historic figures into the plot is a plus.
Plot is intense.
I’m hoping that there will be a season 3,, I and many friends enjoy watching season 2.

I love this show ! Dakota Fanning is fantastic in this role ! Actually like all the characters. And , I love the scenery of 19th century NYC , and it is very suspenseful … I look forward to each episode -Please , please don’t cancel it !

Please, a season 3 fir the alienist
I don’t enjoy the show…. At the beginning of season one they said the alienist was going to be a limited series…. How is season 2 and 3 (if there is a season 3) a limited series? I hope there won’t be a season 3.
I lovee these stories, I’ve read the book and now reading the 2nd book. I would difently watch a third season. I already have my tv set for sunday night.

The first two episodes of Angel of Darkness were awesome, picking up the chemistry where season 1 left off. But if I remember correctly the first season of The Alienist aired in the fall / winter and midweek. This season 2 airs on a Sunday in the summer, so comparing viewership and percentages is apples and oranges and a poor excuse to cancel. Additionally TNT’s excessive long wait between season 1 and 2 can make viewers forgetful and lose interest. Please don’t cancel this excellent show due to TNT’s own bungling program schedule.
