What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the TNT cable channel, season two of The Alienist stars Daniel Brühl, Luke Evans, Dakota Fanning, Douglas Smith, Matthew Shear, Robert Ray Wisdom, Ted Levine, Melanie Field, and Rosy McEwen. The second season, aka Angel of Darkness, takes place in New York City in 1897 where Sara Howard (Fanning) has opened a pioneering private detective agency. She reunites with formidable alienist Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Brühl) and New York Times journalist John Moore (Evans) to find the kidnapped infant daughter of a Spanish dignitary. Their investigation leads them into a sinister path of corruption and deceit, towards a dangerous and elusive killer.
Season Two Ratings
The second season of The Alienist (aka Angel of Darkness) averaged a 0.20 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.04 million viewers. Compared to season one, that’s down by 52% in the demo and down by 41% in viewership. Find out how The Alienist stacks up against other TNT TV shows.

Will TNT cancel or renew The Alienist for season three? Angel of Darkness is based on the sequel novel by Caleb Carr. A third book has been published and a fourth, The Alienist at Armageddon, is in the works. So a third season could be based on one of those or, the producers could make an original story. TNT aired two episodes a week and season two’s ratings were quite low so, there’s a good chance there won’t be a third season anyway. I’ll update this page with breaking developments. The Alienist was great and the sequel was awesome too. I would love to see another sequel. However, your page suggests the third book in the series is still TBD. There’s already a third book out called Surrender, New York. The fourth book in the series The Alienist at Armageddon is the one TBD. So if I may suggest a correction?

We loved the show! Especially Dakota Fanning’s character. Everything about the show is fascinating and exciting from the characters inner thoughts/feelings to the backdrop of that particular era. We would definitely love to see another season and then some. Hope to see a season three.
I absolutely love this show! I would really hope that they do go for a third season. However, I am not at all thrilled that John isn’t going to be with Sarah. I was really hoping John and Sarah got together 🙁 but nevertheless I love the show and would love another season. Maybe somehow in season 3 towards the endSarah and John can be together 😉 and then that will lead into a fourth season

Would love to see another season! I am a counselor and it is excellently written in terms of mental illness and the beginnings of psychology . Great acting, writing, and sets…..keep going!!!!!

Absolutely one of the BEST shows on t.v. One has to actually “think” while watching. Not a show one can walk away from. Edge of your seat type program — Great ! Can’t believe ratings are as low as they are. Guess watching game shows and reality junk doesn’t take a lot of brains. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do NOT cancel this fantastic show with ALL of its fantastic character actors.
Recently discovers The Alienist. Binge watched the first season and watched the second season as it unfolded. Love this show! Love the plot lines and the historical references. Hope there is a season 3!!
