NBC isn’t staying friends with The Enemy Within. The network has cancelled the freshman drama series so there won’t be a second season coming for 2019-20.
A psychological thriller, The Enemy Within stars Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman, and Noah Mills. The character-based drama centers on former CIA operative and now infamous traitor Erica Shepherd (Carpenter) and FBI Agent Will Keaton (Chestnut). In order to apprehend a looming threat, Keaton must tap Shepherd’s expertise, even though she’s serving a life sentence in a supermax prison.
The first season of The Enemy Within averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.40 million viewers. The defacto series finale aired on May 20th.
Compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows of the 2018-19 season, the series ranks 10th in the demo and seventh in total viewers. Based on the rankings, it would seem like the series would be renewed but the ratings trended downward as the season progressed. Considering that The Enemy Within had The Voice as a lead-in, NBC execs were likely not satisfied with the show’s low retention rate either.
Today, the Peacock Network also cancelled The Village and Abby’s TV shows.

The Enemy Within was a show my husband and I looked forward to each week. This was a mistake to cancel the show. We thought NBC was finally getting some good shows besides The Voice. You need to get the show back!
Although this is a very controversial topic, it’s trulyg give you a thought process of how things may really work in the “traitor” world. Very intriguing and always keeps you wondering what’s next and really going on! Bring it back!
Although this is a very controversial subject, this is a very interesting show. Also from a government standpoint kinda gives you an inside look to how “a traitor “ really operates! Please bring it back!
I really liked the show Enemy Within. It had gripping drama and excellent acting. It should have been renewed.

What a pity. Brilliant drama, good plot, well written, not overacted. I guess the networks only like reality shows now…! Everybody that I recommended this series to, loved it. As mentioned here before, most of the other series that were not cancelled, actually sucked. NBC got this wrong indeed. Such a pity they are spewing out so much that they can’t even keep a decent thing going.

I would like to see NBC to go on with Enemy Within good writing no bad language! End of season was a shock! I hardly watch series but did tune in to this one. My Niece and her son got hooked on it too! So hopefully you will re- consider that move! Was really looking forward to this year as to what happens I hope she can get out of jail
I really enjoyed the show very much sorry that ratings mean so much. The actors were good and the scripts were good. If you had that many viewers I don’t understand why NBC cancelled such a good show

I think that The Enemy Within was the best on the NBC network and one of the top shows in the country on the cbs, nbc, and abc networks.. I have a feeling there was politics involved here..
