Is there still a future for The Kids Are Alright? Recently, star Mary McCormack spoke with The Los Angeles Times about her efforts to save the cancelled ABC TV show.
Set in the 1970s, the sitcom centers on the Clearys, an Irish-Catholic family living on the outskirts of Los Angeles. The cast includes Michael Cudlitz, Mary McCormack, Sam Straley, Caleb Foote, Sawyer Barth, Christopher Paul Richards, Jack Gore, Andy Walken, and Santino Barnard.
In the interview, McCormack says she thinks ABC cancelled The Kids Are Alright before its time:
It feels too short. It’s hard to get something really funny and nuanced and moving, and I thought our show was all those things. There’s a lot of stuff I don’t understand about how shows find new homes, but you do hear about it. And I guess because you hear about it, your fans think there’s hope. There are just so many networks now — networks I’ve never heard of. So I’m still holding out a little hope that someone will look at us and see we’re like the already housebroken cute shelter pet that needs someone to adopt them.”
What do you think? Did you watch The Kids Are Alright? Would you have watched a second season?
Me and my 13 year old boy loved the show. We couldn’t wait for it to come in every week. We both felt it was authentic and could relate to real life situations. The show didn’t sugar coat anything. We both were disappointed when they canceled it. I hope they bring the show back. They let the Connor’s come back and I feel that the Connor’s isn’t that funny without Roseanne.
The only show on TV that I look forward to watching. Please do not cancel.
Let it go and move on. Contracts have already expired.
I loved kids are alright I would have kept watching. ABC is cancellation happy and the shows that replaced the cancelled shows are not as good.
My wife and I loved the show and have seen and signed a couple petitions to bring it back. We would love to see it return.
Never should have cancelled it. Loved that show ❤️
I agree with the others… I LOVED this show…. PLEASE DON’T CANCEL IT. ABC, you have so little on your network now that anyone really wants to watch. SAVE this one. Listen to the people for a change.
Loved this show.
I loved this show I would watch a second season. I hope the network changes its mind.
I thought this show was a great family show and I looked forward to watching it each week. Pretty cool how it is based on someone life story. I would watch a second season
I was sickened to hear the show was cancelled. When you see the shows that were saved, compared to a quality show like kids. To much bias in this world right now. I applaud Mary MC cormic for trying.
I loved the show and am disappointed they cancelled it. One of the only primetime shoes I watched on a weekly basis. Guess the network didnt want to keep something that was a little different when everything else on network tv is all the same. There are far worse shows out there that continue to get renewed.
I would definitely vote to bring it back…..it was definitely my favorite sitcom…..you can put my name on a list to bring it back….great cast….
I really liked the show, as did my whole family. It seems to mirror our family growing up.
Yes I watched the kids are alright surprise to hear it cancelled was really a good show to me a good family show
