The chances of a sixth season renewal have disappeared for The Magicians. Syfy has revealed that the current fifth season will also be the show’s last.
The Magicians stars Stella Maeve, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Hale Appleman, Arjun Gupta, Summer Bishil, Rick Worthy, Jade Tailor, Brittany Curran, and Trevor Einhorn. The series follows a group of friends as they discover their magical abilities and ward off evil creatures who threaten to destroy the magical world they’ve come to know. In season four, magic was saved with Quentin Coldwater giving his life to save his friends and the world. In year five, there’s too much magic and, as the excess builds, an apocalypse looms.
The fifth season of The Magicians averages a 0.11 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 341,000 viewers. Compared to season four, that’s down by 44% in the demo and down by 37% in viewership.
Eight episodes of the current season’s 13 installments have aired thus far. The de facto series finale is expected to run on Wednesday, April 1st. While the season’s finale was not planned to end the show, word is that it was written so that it could also serve as The Magicians’ last episode.
“The Magicians has been a part of our Syfy family for five fantastic seasons,” Syfy said in a statement to Deadline. “As we near the end of this journey, we want to thank John McNamara, Sera Gamble, Henry Alonso Myers, Lev Grossman, and our entire brilliant cast, crew, writers, and directors for their beautiful creation. But most of all, we thank the fans for their tremendous support and passion. Because of you, magic will be in our hearts forever.”

Horrible news! This was such a great show and bc of a bad rated season, that’s it? Syfy you really need to rethink this! Hopefully Netflix will atleast pick this series up like they did Lucifer. Now that would be something special! Heres to hoping and heres for a little magic spell that it happens. ☝️✋✊

I LOVED THE SERIES I just finished watching episode 11 of season 5 and zi am hearing just 1episode remaining I Feel like it is too small…now our days people just feel funky cancelling and then Julia’s baby we could get a whole lot stories around that and even around other characters I fell there is still so much to write abt I hope they give the series another shot…..nevertheless I am congratulating all those who worked on the series, the script character everything was good….. so keep on going
This is ridiculous. It’s become such a cancel culture. My wife and I LOVE this show. It’s so creative and quirky. Awesome characters. We will really miss it…VERY upset with SYFY!
Really upset this has been canceled. Hopefully Netflix or Apple or Amazon will pick it up. And Quentin was good, the real stars of this series are Elliot and Margo. Just amazing chemistry, great writers and most of all two phenomenal actors.
Why is it that all my favorite shows get cancelled?! The Magicians is awesome! Fun, Funny, magical and oh so entertaining. I am so saddened!

I am so mad and sad that The Magicians was cancelled. EMBERS’ BALLS!!!!! I’m not sure if I’m more angry or sad. Discovered this show in season 4….now that I’m totally hooked it’s ending!!! Sorry to see it going away..
