The Night Shift will return to NBC with its third season later this spring, and there is new casting news for the series. Jennifer Beals is joining the cast of the medical drama that stars Brendan Fehr and Scott Wolf.
Beals recently appeared on TNT series Proof, but that series was cancelled after just one season. Beals will have a recurring role on the series, and she will first appear in the season three premiere.
Deadline shared the following details about her role:
“Beals will play Doctor Syd Jennings, a Major in the Army. She has worked with the Culture Support Teams (CST) in conjunction with Ranger and Special Forces units in addition to her medical duties. Jennings (Beals) is introduced in the Season 3 premiere in Afghanistan, where she is nearing the end of her six-month tour with Dr. Drew Alister (Brendan Fehr).”
No premiere date for the third season of The Night Shift has been set yet, but season two premiered last February. The series follows the lives of doctors working the night shift at the San Antonio Medical Center.

Will I watch season three? ABDOLUTELY!!!
I love the show. I actually worked in a San Antonio hospital at one time, so I enjoy the location and historical references also. I love the characters. Looking forward to season 3.
I’m really glad to see this show coming back. Why add a new cast member when this show hasn’t really established a foot? Yes, I know it’s season 3, but NBC shows it so sporadic (as in different night and time slots), and with such long hiatuses, that it’s not what I call a regular show. There’s a lot of reality crap you can take off and put this on, with full 18 episodes, during the fall with all the other fall premieres.
Great show! Keep it going!,
I think the whole show is great-she adds. I am so happy this show will be back.
LOVE this show! I can’t wait for it to come back.
Very happy to see Jennifer Beals in this role. Now I need to catch up on previous seasons!
