NBC is hoping that fans of The Night Shift will continue staying up to watch their medical drama. They’ve renewed it for a third season.
The Night Shift revolves around the quirky but devoted staffmembers of San Antonio Memorial Hospital who work from dusk til dawn. The cast of the medical drama includes Eoin Macken, Freddy Rodriguez, Jill Flint, Ken Leung, Robert Bailey Jr., Brendan Fehr, Jeananne Goossen, and J.R. Lemon.
The medical drama debuted last May and performed pretty well for a series running over the summer months. The season of 10 episodes averaged a 1.37 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.59 million viewers.
The peacock network renewed it for a second season of 14 episodes and brought it back a couple months ago. Despite having a big series like The Voice as a lead-in, the ratings have actually come down. It’s currently averaging a 1.3 in the demo with 5.32 million.
Nevertheless, it has performed better than many other NBC dramas. As a result, the network has now renewed The Night Shift for a third season. No word on how many episodes have been ordered this time around or when they’ll air them.

Love this show. I’m hooked and so are several of my friends and coworkers. Can’t wait for season 3.
I thoroughly enjoy watching the night shift the characters of very interesting to me and I feel you can do a lot going forward with the show to make it a great show I always look forward to watching this show. Need to give the show a chance to grow.

Thank you NBC for renewing “Night Shift” for a third season. I am a PVR watcher so didn’t see the show live but am thoroughly enjoying it now. The writing is incredible – how they can continue to come up with so many exciting, dramatic and interesting storylines is constantly amazing! I am so looking forward to seeing next season’s shows and hopefully for many more seasons!!!!
