Not counting the Prison Break revival, FOX introduced 10 new TV shows during the regular 2016-17 television season and cancelled seven of them. Now they’ve picked up Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane’s new space adventure comedy drama. Can his animated series success translate to live-action sci-fi? Will The Orville TV show be cancelled or renewed for a second season on FOX? Stay tuned.
The Orville stars MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, Halston Sage, J Lee, Mark Jackson, Chad L. Coleman, Norm Macdonald, Larry Joe Campbell, Victor Garber, Brian George, and Rachael MacFarlane. In 2417, Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane) is promoted to captain The U.S.S. Orville, with the assistance of First Officer Kelly Grayson (Palicki). Unfortunately, she’s his ex-wife, and her presence acts as a bridle on his enthusiasm. Whether facing off with the Krill, a dangerous alien race, or attempting rescues on behalf of the Planetary Union, the human and alien crew still must deal with their mundane issues and each other.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
12/8 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The Orville TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season on FOX?
11/2 update: The Orville is renewed for season two on FOX. Details here.
I am very impressed with The Orville. It is fresh and new like the first Star Treks. Good story and characters. Light comedy with out being slapstick, while making you think a bit too. I missed it not being on this week. Please DON”T cancel it and Please DO Renew it for next year.
My son stopped watching The Orville. Instead, he watches reruns on The Cartoon Network.
Orville is an amazing show first time I have actually watch fox at all since Fringe!
Stop camparing ST to this! good grief!
As a star-trek fan, I loved orville more than star trek discovery. It carries the real soul of the star-trek franchise. Comedy part is not that good, but stories has the quality of the star-trek voyager. I think trekkies should be alerted about this series!
This show is awful. I don’t even like its promos.
I say season 2. Go for it. It’s better than I thought it would be. Just have to iron out the comedy vs reality ratio better.
I agree with all the negative comments. It’s as bad as they’re saying. Plz cancel.
This show is pretty awful.
This show gets better with every episode as the characters evelope. Fox has a winner with The Orville. Love the humor in the show, smart and witty. Big, big, mistake if its cancelled. One of the only new shows this season worth watching.
Ratings don’t mean ****. I almost NEVER watch a show when it airs. I have to watch it when I can, not when they tell me it’s on.
Renew!
The show is better with each episode. Orville needs to grow, and I think it will with a second season.
I’m impressed with this Orville. I’m a Treky fan who have watched all the shows going back to 1967. While the jokes were sometimes flat or not funny, there were some very good jokes in the mix. The love-hate relationship between the captain and captain assistant will be just a minor nuisance going forward but they mix that silliness into story telling pretty well. I’ll be surprised if they get higher ratings in their reruns or purchase of their show in DVDs. Newer episodes has gotten better and the continued success should stabilize their ratings on a night of popular… Read more »
Please cancel The Orville. It’s stale, boring and very unimaginative.
