Court will soon be adjourned for ABC’s new legal drama. The Whole Truth has been cancelled.
Airing on Wednesday nights, The Whole Truth stars TV veterans Rob Morrow and Maura Tierney. He plays a powerful defense attorney who was raised on the wrong side of the tracks. Tierney is on the opposite side as a Senior Trial Assistant District Attorney whose father was a sheriff. Viewers are shown how each side builds their case, using their own version of “the truth.” The rest of the cast includes Eamonn Walker, Sean Wing, Anthony Ruivivar, and Christine Adams.
For whatever reason, most viewers haven’t been willing to even give the series a try. The legal drama got off to a very poor start right out of the gate. Whole Truth debuted on September 22th to a poor 1. 5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.85 million viewers. The news got even worse in week two and the rating dropped by 20%. The last two episodes seem to have evened off, registering a 1.3 rating and about 4.4 million total viewers.
The Whole Truth’s been ABC’s lowest rated show, attracting an even lower rating than My Generation; another freshman drama that was pulled after just two episodes. Likely because of the caliber of the show’s cast and because it’s being co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer’s company, ABC has been more patient with it. That doesn’t mean however that they’re going to order any more episodes. ABC has now cancelled The Whole Truth.
Via Twitter, co-executive producer KristieAnne Reed confirmed that the cast and crew will complete the initial 13 episode order but that will be the end. At this point, it’s unclear how many of those will actually air.
Whole Truth remains on the schedule this week but will be preempted next week for the In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: All Access Nashville interview special. On November 10th, ABC airs the Country Music Awards. Whole Truth is tentatively scheduled to return after that but those plans could certainly change.
Though Whole Truth has been cancelled, there is some positive news for fans of the show. With the news of the cancellation coming this far in advance, producers have time to give the series some closure. The cast and crew are still shooting and are scheduled to continue until mid-December.
What do you think? Should The Whole Truth have been cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

this has been a relly well written show. The actors are perfect in their parts And you do get to think, so oh yea that’s the kiss of death in TV land isn’t it. I feel sorry for the producers and writers, it is a really good show.
Love this show, don’t cancel it. Not since The Practice has another legal drama been so promising. ABC would be foolish to cancel it. Please keep it going! LOVE LOVE LOVE “THE WHOLE TRUTH”
I enjoy this show. Its one of the better shows on tv. It seems like the good shows always get cancelled while shows I think are stupid keep running.
THE WHOLE TRUTH is one of the slickest “legal” shows produced this season dealing with finding the justice in what and why one prosecutes and the other defends their defendants. The writing is great and Rob, Maura are portaying their characters on an opposite journey to the their counterpart’s personaltiy and manner. It’s extremely underrated by what the ratings have showed. Perhaps a miriacle of reprieval will occur.
It’s happened before.
Leave it on, ABC! Why didn’t it catch on? I just saw my first episode tonite. I was thrilled to find Rob Morrow in another role… and the same nite I watch the playback, I find out it’s been cancelled. After just seeing the one show, I have to ask if the rest of the cast is as strong as Morrow in their roles. I thought he carried the whole show in this particular episode. Darn it! I’m still not over “Numbers” getting cancelled! Grrrr…..
I love this show and these actors. It is cleverly written and the actors are very well suited for their roles. The suspense at the end of each episode draws me in like no other. Please do not cancel this show.
Don’t cancel! I guess it is too late to say, but it really is an enjoyable show! I love the chemistry between the two actors…the way they show both sides of the trial…I’m sorry to see it end so early.
This is an excellent drama which makes one pay attention in order to understand the twist at the very end. I also find it a thinking person’s program. It is the one I look forward to the most every week. I was astonished to see it was not to be on this next week. Then to find it has been cancelled and this season may not even be broadcast is unbelievable.
I agree. It’s a shame to cancel and not give the show a chance to find an audience. Maybe this belongs on USA or TNT or FX where it might make a good run.
This is a great show. Me and my friend at work talk about how different this show is and how much we like it.
Please don’t cancel this show! I love it! It’s smart and doesn’t have to show blood and guts to be interesting. I really enjoy the “did he or didn’t he” story lines. I watch it online every Thursday morning as many people these days probably do. The actors are fun to watch and have much chemistry among each other that shows on camera. Give it a chance!
The only reason it did not catch on is because it requires some intelligence to appreciate it. It will probably be replaced by another mindless reality show like “Bowling with the So-Called Stars.”
Definitely should not cancel!!! Great show!!!!!
Love the show. Please don’t cancel…move it to another night or time slot. It’s one of the few shows that allows the mind to think
That occurred to me as well… perhaps there are those who just don’t like to think when they watch TV in the evening.
Please keep this show. It’s another good one going away (like Outlaw). I love the back and forth, seeing things from both sides and finding out in the end THE WHOLE TRUTH!
