Training Day TV show star, Bill Paxton, passed away on February 25th, at just 61 years of age, due to complications following surgery. Since his new CBS cop drama is only four episodes into its 13 episode first season, fans have asked how the loss of this accomplished actor will affect the first season, and if CBS will cancel or renew Training Day for season two.
Picking up years after the movie, Training Day follows Detective Frank Rourke (Paxton). He’s the maverick head of a special unit that hunts the city’s most dangerous criminals. LAPD brass assigns heroic Kyle Craig (Justin Cornwell) to pose as Frank’s trainee. Kyle is to spy on Frank and report on his off-book methods. The rest of the CBS cast includes Katrina Law, Drew Van Acker, Lex Scott Davis, Julie Benz, Christina Vidal, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.
Will Training Day Season One Continue? Will this TV Show Be Cancelled or Renewed for a Season Two on CBS?
The first season of Training Day is currently averaging a 0.77 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.165 million viewers. Compared to other CBS TV shows, the cop drama currently ranks 22nd out of the 25 scripted Tiffany Network TV shows we’re tracking. Even if we hadn’t lost the talented Mr. Paxton far too soon, CBS was unlikely to renew Training Day for season two.
There is one bright spot for fans. Deadline reports that season one production wrapped in December, which means all 13 episodes from the show’s first-season have already been shot. There are still nine new Training Day episodes, starring Paxton, to come on CBS.
What do you think? Are you a fan of the Training Day TV show? Will you keep watching it, without Paxton? Should CBS cancel or renew Training Day for season two? Let us know, below.
I thoroughly like the show but realize it may be difficult to bring the same dynamic without its scuffy lead character. So sad this. happened to one of the best new series.
I like the show and think it should renew with a new actor.
I have really enjoyed this show. It’s well done and not as formulaic as other cop shows.
I love the show and want it to continue. My husband and I look forward to the show and watch it together. I believe u can find a strong male actor to replace Bill Paxton.
I like the TV show and would still watch it if they move onto season 2 with a new actor.
Do not cancle this great show. Find someone to take bills place. He was a great actor. This is a great show with a great plot. It should be tribute to bill paxton.
Keep it going hate to see a good show end it’s an aweful thing that happened causing the death of such an great actor but with the potential this series has I’d hate to see it end.
Took a bit to get into it but wouldn’t miss it now – best bad ass renegade cop since Dirty Harry, softened by the relationship being established with Craig. Hope series is renewed after tragic loss of Paxton. The cast is talented and believable. Perhaps writers could bring some character of Rourke’s ilk out of the woodwork who was with Rourke way back when and knows where the bodies are buried, a character to carry on the premise but also comfort Craig. I would prefer to see writers explain the loss of Paxton’s character and let viewers grieve the loss… Read more »
Premise great love it keep going
Love show and premise keep going!!!
I think that Training Day should renew. Bill Paxton will be missed for his role, but they should have a new story line for Season 2.
Please renew it as an ongoing tribute to Bill Paxton.
It is the right thing to do.
The writers of the show can keep the series alive and people will watch this great series.
Seriously, what would Bill Paxton want?
Do this for this veteran actor, beloved by his fan
I really enjoy the show & am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of it’s star Bill Paxton. I hope the network will air the rest of season one & find a way to film an appropriate ending to honor this wonderful actor.
Mr. Paxton was a great actor, and a good man. He played a great bad guy on 2 guns as a dirty D.E.A agent which made him the best choice pick for training day, I bet! But the show must go on. I also bet Mr. Paxton would agree. I, along with millions of angelinos were waiting for a cop show filmed in Los Angeles, which has the most beautiful sceneries, landmarks and communities, in our opinion. It reminds us of L.A. confidential, the lincoln lawyer and street kings, among other great flicks filmed in beautiful Los Angeles, NCISLA, etc.… Read more »
I was skeptical at first, but came to like the show. I have to say, it was a good come back from the movie where Denzel Washington won the Oscar for Best Actor. Losing the talented Bill Paxton is a great loss. He brought a different energy to the character, like a storm waiting offshore – one you would actually be afraid of…I was interested in seeing how Justin Cornwell’s character would unfold. I felt the story line took too long to fully develop his internal conflict with Frank Rourke, which would have brought more intensity to the show.
