It appears that another ABC sitcom has fallen. The alphabet network has cancelled the United We Fall series after a short summer run. It won’t be returning for a second season.
The United We Fall TV show stars Will Sasso, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Jane Curtin, Guillermo Diaz, Ella Grace Helton, and Ireland and Sedona Carjaval. The series revolves around the trials and tribulations of Bill (Sasso) and Jo (Mitchell) as they try to make it day-to-day as a functioning family. They’re the parents of two young kids, Emily (Helton) and Lulu (Carjaval). Bill’s very judgmental live-in-mother, Sandy (Curtin), and Jo’s large Latinx Catholic family — including brother Chuy (Diaz) — never hesitate to let this couple know they’re seemingly screwing up. Thankfully, Bill and Jo will always have each other’s backs.
The first season of United We Fall averaged a 0.50 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.43 million viewers. Compared to the other summer ABC TV shows, United We Fall ranks seventh in the demo and fourth in viewership. The de facto series finale aired on August 26, 2020.
The series was co-produced by Sony Pictures Television (with ABC Studios). Deadline has reported that Sony TV and other studios are pulling back from producing half-hour comedies. The existing broadcast model, which is based on a studio taking a financial risk in hopes of reaping rewards later if a show is a long-running hit, isn’t nearly as profitable in the current age of vertical integration and streaming.
What do you think? Did you enjoy the United We Fall TV show? Are you sorry to hear that it won’t be returning for a second season on ABC?
This is so disappointing! I was just searching online for when season 2 would be coming out and I saw this. I LOVED this show. So relatable to so many families.
Your network is immensely disappointing to say the least. United We Fall was one of my favorite shows! I just don’t understand how you could not continue it. In such difficult times, we need to be able to have some joy for a half hour, forget about our troubles and laugh. I’m going to be watching this one and only season over and over again when my depression gets heavy. So sad to see a great show cancelled.
This is a bummer. I really liked this show. We have so few latinx shows and this was a very funny one. They gave it hardly any advertising, no hype, and I’ll miss it.
they dont give shows enough time to become popular before canceling them. Everything has to be an instant success or it’s gone! Getting to where i dont want to watch any new shows from ABC, FOX, etc.
It’s true, they don’t give it any time to even know it exists, I didn’t even find this show until August and streamed it, thought it was good and was hoping there would be more episodes.
