If you were planning on watching Bachelor Pad on ABC this summer, those plans have been cancelled. The reality competition, which pits former contestants from The Bachelor and The Bachelorette against one another in pursuit of love and a cash prize, has been benched — at least for now.
Franchise creator Mike Fleiss tweeted over the weekend that Bachelor Pad wouldn’t be back this summer but wouldn’t share any more information than that.
The first two seasons of Bachelor Pad were a moderate success for ABC, averaging a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.9 million viewers in 2010 and 6.3 million in season two.
Last summer however, the numbers came way down; averaging a just 1.3 rating and 4.0 million.
Its not a big surprise that the network is giving the show a rest this time around as they have a lot of other programming on tap. They also don’t want to risk wearing out their successful franchise.
The Bachelor just wrapped its 17th season and grew slightly year-to-year in the all-important demo. The new season of The Bachelorette is currently filming and is set to debut on May 20th.
What do you think? Will you miss watching Bachelor Pad this summer? Do you think it will be back next year? Do you think this is a good strategy by ABC?
I am SO upset bachelor pad wont be airing! i look foward to the ending of bachelor/bachelorette not only to see “whose” been chosen, but also cuz i know Bachelor Pad will be starting….YES im ADDICTED to these corny reality shows, its a nice way to unwind after getting home from a hard days work. 😉 Yes, i will miss bachelor pad,,plz bring it back next year….*sniff, sniff*
I am very upset the bachelor pad will not be on this summer. I love the bachelor, bachelorette, and bachelor pad. I think they should have it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How’d I miss this high culture show? Oh I know, cuz like all those dating shows, they really suck.
I won’t miss “Bachelor Pad, Bachelor, Bachelorette”, or “Son of Bachelor”. They make me glad to have over a hundred TV channels and an XBox 360. It’s all phony as a football bat, and. outside my own family, I don’t care who’s doing whom. I’d sooner sit & watch paint dry.
