FOX announced its new schedule for the 2009 – 2010 season earlier this week and, other than the renewal of Dollhouse, there weren’t many surprises. If you count in the numbers for American Idol, the network is still doing very well with viewers in the 18-49 demographic.
New shows that are on the way for next season include Brothers, Human Target, Past Life, Sons of Tucson, and The Family Guy spin-off, The Cleveland Show.
Shows that will be back next season include 24, American Dad, American Idol, America’s Most Wanted, Bones, Cops, Dollhouse, Family Guy, Fringe, Glee, House, Kitchen Nightmares, Lie to Me, The Simpsons, So You Think You Can Dance, and ‘Til Death.
King of the Hill has been cancelled but, because FOX still has some leftover episodes, the network has indicated there are plans to air a few next season.
So You Think You Can Dance is also airing over the Summer. It’ll be joined by returning reality shows like Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?, Don’t Forget the Lyrics!, Hell’s Kitchen, and The Moment of Truth. Joining them will be new series Mental and More to Love.

As is the case every year, there are a handful of shows that won’t be returning next season. Some had already been cancelled while we only suspected that others had been slashed. And the unlucky ones are…
Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?
The Jeff Foxworthy-hosted game show pits the knowledge of adults against precocious pre-teens. The show is set to return with new episodes in late June but that’s supposed to be the end of the show’s run. For those who enjoy the series, a syndicated version will begin airing in September on MyNetworkTV.
Do Not Disturb
A sitcom based in a posh New York City hotel. With bad reviews and few viewers, FOX pulled the plug after three installments aired. Three episodes, including the pilot, were never broadcast.
Don’t Forget the Lyrics!
This sing-a-long game show is hosted by the always-energetic Wayne Brady. It returns to the FOX schedule for the Summer months but they aren’t making any more episodes.
Hole in the Wall
A strange game show in which contestants try to quickly contort their bodies to match the cutouts in a rapidly moving wall. There were 26 episodes produced and, to date 18 of them have aired. They may air at some point but there won’t be any more produced.
MADtv
The fourth network’s answer to Saturday Night Live lasted 14 seasons before FOX pulled the plug. Producers want to find another home for the series but thus far, they don’t appear to have been successful.
Osbournes: Reloaded
This strange reality show revolves around the crazy Osbourne family interacting with audience members and outrageous acts to create crazy stunts and comedy. Based on the poor performance of its March 31st preview episode, FOX has cancelled it. Five additional episodes were shot. They may see the light of day at some point but no others will be made.
Prison Break
The network says that Michael Scofield and frenimies can finally stop running. The prison drama is ending after four seasons. A two-hour follow-up movie has made and is coming to DVD in July. FOX may or may not air it as well.
Secret Millionaire
A reality show in which millionaires go undercover in depressed areas and end up awarding money to people in need. The network has said there’s a chance that it may be revived someday but, for now, it’s dead.
Sit Down, Shut Up
From creator Mitch Hurwitz, this animated series reunites several Arrested Development castmembers. Unfortunately, the series wasn’t beloved by viewers or critics as much. Four episodes have aired, leaving nine on the shelf. Again, they may air but there won’t be any new ones made.
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
This sci-fi action series lasted just 31 episodes before having its plug pulled. Though you’d think that there’d be a big audience for a small-screen version of the Terminator franchise, not many viewers tuned in.

yes my entire family are going to miss the much needed shows that all members can watch together, Don’t forget the lyrics and Are you smarter then a 5 grader. I think who is in charge should check out the fact that there are alot of amilies that need these kind of shows that all can watch together like in the 50’s and 60’s it is a real shame. A real shame.
Loved Terminator. Cancelling it was a big mistake… but then so was moving it to Friday.
The Dollhouse – Terminator back to back was the best night of TV.
At least they saved Dollhouse, my favourite show on TV. Give Joss Whedon time to unfold a story 0 he is one of the best writers out there.
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was that true rarity on television these days: a good, solid sci-fi show that did not devolve into camp and humor. I would think that with the renewed interest in all things Terminator that the third rate movie just released in theaters will engender, Fox would have gone for another season of TTSCC – it will be missed!
I outright moaned when I read that Sarah Connor Chronicles is gone. I felt punched in the groin (wherever that really is). That was one of the better shows to come along in the last ten years. What a pity people did not cotton to it enough to get either Fox or someone else to pony up and get the next season in. Now there are no answers to at least half-a-dozen questions, and I will miss it. The idea that Dollhouse (which I like but not as much as I liked SCC) was renewed and not Sarah is pretty… Read more »
tsk tsk, we’ll miss SCC
The writers of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles brought a tight, interesting, and thought-provoking script to every episode, with excellent actors developing wonderful characters. One of the best shows on TV and a great lead-in to Dollhouse. Another dumb move by Fox to cancel. Just check out the voting results from this site.
cudos to Fox for the Prison Break finale. All ends were tied up, maybe not all like we wanted or expected, but good anyway
Not very happy with Fox. With Sara Connor Chronicles out I have no reason to watch Fox. At least there was a chance I would watch when SCC was on. That was the only television show I watched.
I also enjoyed Terminator. That was one of the few Fox shows I watched. I’ll miss it. I think it still had more stories left to tell.
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was one of only a handful of shows I actually watched. And I would then watch it again online. I thought it was the best show on TV last year. It had a great cast and while it had a couple episodes that were not up to par with the rest, for the most part it was well written in addition to well acted and well produced.
Fox is so stupid!!! Do they know that a film has come out relating to one of their canceled shows? I don’t need to be a professional statistician to tell them that in the fall there will be a jump in audience for Terminator:SCC. They will not find a built in audience for any other replacement or current program. They are just stupid executives!!! I can give them 100 million reasons. Look YOU STUPID IDIOTS! Terminator Salvation has made $67 MILLION IN FOUR DAYS. One more time, I DON’T HAVE TO BE A STATISTICIAN, to look at the bottom line,… Read more »
terminator sarah connor chronicles was GREAT!!! Why the hell cancel it, after the film coming out they would/will have loads of people watching it, its just because it didnt have enough publicity about the show!!! BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!
Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles had it’s share of boring episodes, but overall it was a great series. Probably if it had more action it might have stayed around. However, FOX’s decision to axe it, while renewing Dollhouse is asinine. Dollhouse is one of the worst shows I have ever watched, & it got worse rating than TSCC. You would think Fox would keep the higher rated shows & cut the lower rated, but that would make too much sense. This is the network that cancelled Married With Children after all those years, & refused to make a final episode. Idiots.
How could they cancel the SArah Conner chronicles?
and night rider how could they just take off all these good shows?????
Most people are upset over The Sarah Connor Chronicles but I never really liked that show. It didnt do anything for me so I wont really miss it, along with Prison Break ( They already escaped but yet the stroy goes on… ) Anyway, I will miss MadTv because I actually liked it more than Saturday Night Live and I found the cast more diverse than Saturday Night Live’s. But the show that really bugs me is, Sit Down and Shut Up, I kinda liked it but I cant belive after 1 seaon it isnt coming back in the fall… Read more »
