ABC launched eight new scripted series during the regular portion of the 2016-17 season. They cancelled five of them and renewed three. How will the alphabet network TV shows perform during the 2017-18 season? Stay tuned!

There’s lots of data that network execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are the major ingredient. These charts will be updated daily, as new ratings data becomes available.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also view them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Are you surprised by any of the ratings? Which shows should be doing better? Which one do you think will be cancelled next?
I hope ABC renews Deception, its my favourite freshman show this year and I really think it should have a second season. The ratings are not going my way though 🙁
“Roseanne” just about owned every show with the ratings last night! Glad to see mostly everyone back too!
Grey’s Anatomy needs cancelling it has become boring and poor stories. Losing two fan favourites at end of season will make it worst. Im done with Grey’s.
Sure…. cancel the #2 show on the Network, I’m sure advertisers will support you.
Kevin Probably Saves the World is a great! It is refreshing and family friendly and should be moved to prime time. Finally, a show that kids and adults can watch which has meaning and a good message. The world needs more of Kevin!!
need good clean family shows. ENOUGH VIOLENCE IN THE WORLD. ALSO TIRED OF SKIN TIGHT CLOTHES AND PLUNGING NECKLINES. ADULTRY AND SO FORTH. NOT A PRUDE BUT IF THAT IS HOW SHOWS KEEP THEIR RATINGS IT DOES NOT SAY A LOT FOR AMERICA.
Kevin Probably Saves The World. Great family show. Clean, funny w meaning in each episode. Just a light hearted show. Helps that Jason Ritter is main character.
WHY ARE YOU YELLING???
DON’T WATCH ANY OF THESE SHOWS ON ABC. NOT OF INTEREST TO US.
I take some comfort in having lots of company enjoying my favorite scripted, NCIS, and unscripted, DWTS, shows. Sure they know there will be riots when either get cancelled.
what is the 18-49 demo
It represents the people who are in the 18-49 demographic who watch the show live or within three hours of its airing. Generally, it’s the preferred audience for advertisers.
so basically only seniors watch tv
Apparently, they think that’s the age group who control spending, but I suspect they underestimate the power we baby boomers still hold.
RENEW Once Upon A Time! Our family loves watching the show together! We love the new adventures and story lines! Every new episode in season 7 just gets us hooked deeper and deeper. These new majestic adventures that each of our beloved fabled characters are going through are surrounded with entertaining everyday modernday living struggles, which include the occasional hilarious problem with a family member, the boundaries of friendships are tested every episode, tragedies galore, compassion, loyalty, previously forbidden epic and beautiful love stories, and deceptions with twist and turns the most treacherous kind. Yes it has magic, friends, family,… Read more »
No. OUAT has is passed its prime. It should have ended with season 6. It had a great ending.
I like the new version as well, but it is not catching the attention of nearly anyone on Friday. ABC knew it was a long shot at continuing with essentially a new cast and story and it is failing in the ratings numbers. There is almost no chance it comes back. Season 7 will be the last and that story will never reach its conclusion (it will become the “lost” season in history as Season 6 will be regarded the true end most likely).
We love Kevin Saves the World! Its a clean comedy and our family looks forward to watching it every week! Please keep it on!
Please renewed once upon a time season 8so darn good I love it but too much shows on Friday night use be Sunday night instead they but something else whatever just rude goes u
Once Upon a Time needs to be cancelled at the end of this season. It is laughable that it is an ABC show and yet half the shows on CW have a better demo rating than OUAT. Also the year to year change of viewership needs to be seriously looked at because a decrease of almost 50% is completely ridiculous and the writers and ABC bosses need to see that a lot of audiences have not agreed in the direction this once great show has taken.

Don’t get rid of Kevin probably saves the world! Its hilarious. Advertise better! And we got jipped episode through holidays!. Ritter and crew are hilarious! MORE WILL WATCH. ITS AWESOME.
ABC should get rid of Once Upon a Time and Agents of SHIELD instead.
I completely agree with you about OUAT, I’m not sure about AoS but I don’t watch that so…
ABC made the biggest mistake programming mistake since NBC cancelled Star Trek, when it cancelled Last Man Standing. ABC = Anything But Conservative humor
I LOVED Last Man Standing! I have recorded almost 100 reruns on CMT.
Dumbest move Disney has ever made.
Last man standing at the end of its run was averaging just over 6 million people watching on Friday night. Agents of Shield and Once Upon a Time average just over 2 million people watching each night. Sounds like a sound business decision to me to run a network into the ground. Problem is that Last Man Standing was run by Sony while the replacement shows are ABC produced shows. So rerun money on these two goes to ABC while on LMS it went to Sony. That is what made their decision, not their network ratings.
