TV show description:
This family sitcom revolves around an African-American family who are living the American dream — but that may be too much of a good thing for the family’s dad.
Andre ‘Dre’ Johnson (Anthony Anderson) considers himself the family patriarch. When he looks at his life, he sees a beautiful wife and four kids living happily in their colonial home in the suburbs. But when he looks a little closer, have the trappings of success brought too much assimilation for this black family? The world he sees has a much different lens than the one he would like his family to look through.
Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross) is an anesthesiologist and the bi-racial wife of Dre. He disagrees with some of her liberal viewpoints but they’re in agreement that they want to raise their kids in a better situation than what they had. Much to her husband’s wonderment, she believes their children can exist in a colorless society. She wants her husband to become the first black senior VP of his ad firm and she’s also looking forward to the salary increase that will follow.
At 15 years old, Zoey (Yara Shahidi) has everything going for her. She’s pretty, popular and super smart. However, she is dripping in privilege and unearned entitlement. Her idea of success is rooted in material things, rather than hard work.
Dre’s son is Andre Jr. (Marcus Scribner) but he asks to be called “Andy.” He also announces that, like his schoolmates, he wants a bar mitzvah for his 13th birthday. Trouble is, their family isn’t Jewish. When the boy says he wants to play for his school’s field hockey team instead of basketball, Dre wonders if he’d prefer Andre play basketball instead.
Diane (Marsai Martin) and Jack (Miles Brown) are the six-year-old twins. Jack is more of the sensitive type and idolizes his dad. Diane is gifted and talented and she thinks she has all the answers.
Dre’s father (Laurence Fishburne) is affectionately referred to as “Pops.” With an affinity for velour tracksuits and going to the racetrack, Pops can be a curmudgeon and takes every opportunity to offer his opinion on family issues.
Episode #176 — Homegoing
As Pops and Ruby prepare to move away, Dre and Bow consider if they should make a big life change as well. Grappling with this idea at work, Dre receives some unexpected advice from Simone Biles, who tells him to follow his heart. The Johnsons prepare for their goodbyes in the series finale.
First aired: April 19, 2022.
What do you think? Do you like the Black-ish TV show? Do you think it should have ended or been renewed for a ninth season?
I like this show keep it in the line up! There are some young couples who could actually benefit from this show.
I really enjoy the show
Funny
Keep it in the Lineup
Best new show of the year. Our family loves this!
I LOVE this show, & definitely do NOT think it should be cancelled – it brings to light LOTS of various social issues that black , white, Asian & ALL kinds of other families deal with EVERY DAY, in a light, touching, Hilarious & often poignant way !!! Please don’t cancel it !!!
I LOVE this show!! It’s funny with family values to make you discuss with your family and friends about the show. I don’t like seeing or hearing my beautiful sistah’s and brothas calling each other out of their names, fighting and being so disrepectful towards one another, it’s shameful!!.. Black folks should be really tired of seeing our people act like that! They should be petitioning to take that crap off the air instead of the show title be called Blackish…
Love Black-ish. Saw for first time tonight. Great characters.
I loved the show!!! Plus, the actors and actresses but was not feeling the title! Change the name of the show!!! We need some more African -American shows with decency not poor trash reality shows that are getting too much air time and not for children eyes to see! keep the show! Hope to see it back!
lOVE THE SHOW!!!
Blackish is awesome!!!! I absolutely LOOOOOVE the show! please don’t cancell!!!!!
I have to say that I love this show! I think that by first seeing the name I was curious what it could be about just like most of the other viewers. After watching it I feel comfortable with the name and I don’t see why people should bash it or not watch it just because of the title. Being a woman of mixed raced, Black and Puerto Rican, I see where the show is coming from. It’s refreshing to see a modern age, devoted, and successful black couple who love each other and spend time with their kids. I… Read more »
I think this show is funny. It should return a second season. Maybe it’s too taboo for certain homes but I applaud ABC for trying.
Blackish is a very funny show. It’s a great show that makes fun of family issues and how an African American family would handle it. I enjoy this show Tremendously. It has a lot of potential to be a hit comedy series.
Watched the show twice and even though I was somewhat hesitant because of the name of the show (which I would love to know if the cast had anything to do with the title, or was it the creator of the show) and found too much cursing in the show to represent a middle class family life. I had it on and within the first 10 minutes they used the “ass” five times and another word while my 7 year old was watching. I immediately cut it off and will never watch it again. Bill Cosby didn’t find it necessary… Read more »
