TV show description:
This family sitcom revolves around an African-American family who are living the American dream — but that may be too much of a good thing for the family’s dad.
Andre ‘Dre’ Johnson (Anthony Anderson) considers himself the family patriarch. When he looks at his life, he sees a beautiful wife and four kids living happily in their colonial home in the suburbs. But when he looks a little closer, have the trappings of success brought too much assimilation for this black family? The world he sees has a much different lens than the one he would like his family to look through.
Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross) is an anesthesiologist and the bi-racial wife of Dre. He disagrees with some of her liberal viewpoints but they’re in agreement that they want to raise their kids in a better situation than what they had. Much to her husband’s wonderment, she believes their children can exist in a colorless society. She wants her husband to become the first black senior VP of his ad firm and she’s also looking forward to the salary increase that will follow.
At 15 years old, Zoey (Yara Shahidi) has everything going for her. She’s pretty, popular and super smart. However, she is dripping in privilege and unearned entitlement. Her idea of success is rooted in material things, rather than hard work.
Dre’s son is Andre Jr. (Marcus Scribner) but he asks to be called “Andy.” He also announces that, like his schoolmates, he wants a bar mitzvah for his 13th birthday. Trouble is, their family isn’t Jewish. When the boy says he wants to play for his school’s field hockey team instead of basketball, Dre wonders if he’d prefer Andre play basketball instead.
Diane (Marsai Martin) and Jack (Miles Brown) are the six-year-old twins. Jack is more of the sensitive type and idolizes his dad. Diane is gifted and talented and she thinks she has all the answers.
Dre’s father (Laurence Fishburne) is affectionately referred to as “Pops.” With an affinity for velour tracksuits and going to the racetrack, Pops can be a curmudgeon and takes every opportunity to offer his opinion on family issues.
Episode #176 — Homegoing
As Pops and Ruby prepare to move away, Dre and Bow consider if they should make a big life change as well. Grappling with this idea at work, Dre receives some unexpected advice from Simone Biles, who tells him to follow his heart. The Johnsons prepare for their goodbyes in the series finale.
First aired: April 19, 2022.
What do you think? Do you like the Black-ish TV show? Do you think it should have ended or been renewed for a ninth season?
Years ago we stopped watching the Cosby show when it began to “preach” and Blackish has a tendency to do the same thing. It may also have to go bythe wayside.
Loved the show the first season, but it has now grown EXTREMELY too political to be an enjoyable comedy. There’s CNN, MSNBC and even FOX; as well as an entire slew of politically based magazine news shows, if I want to be better informed of the current political environment. I don’t need this kind of heavy handed writing in my comedy, especially when I’m watching with my grade school children. Thanks, but no thanks, ABC!! Blackish is officially off my Wednesday my night must see comedies. In the Middle and Modern Family are the only two ABC comedies left orth… Read more »
Cancel. Funny actors, but the writers are way to political.
Horrible show – cancel it immediately!
Black-ish was renewed for a third season
As far as the Blackish show that was on Wednesday the 24th about police officer shootings was very inappropriate my daughter is a police officer she has to take her life in her own hands every day and when you don’t know whether somebody has a weapon or not what are you supposed to do the reference of her being a doctor and killing 25% of her patients her patients do not fight back her patients do not attempt to kill her so that is a bad reference
Because of people like you a we are limited to what the writers can do, it’s a show get over it.
I didn’t start out liking the show but it rapidly grew on me. They handle many controversial topics in ways that are thought-provoking and with humor. February 24th show was exceptionally well done.
Sorry to see Charlie go was one of my favorite on the show. Not crazy about the new addition to the work place I guess his replacement ??
We love the show. We also watch on HULU to see the shows over and over.
Please tell us about the jewelry that the Grandmother wears.
Give us the name of the company where she purchases the beautiful jewelry that she wears each week THANKS

Blackish is the closes perception we have of a normal traditional family taking care of their children the way our world should function. It is a guiding source for civilization to sustain a future that is in trouble for the next generation of people of any race. We need to teach people about traditional marriage and caring for children. For this reason, Blackish should stay on TV for many years. It corrects the perception of many people, who think every Black American person is the same. I have always thought Mr. Anderson was funny since Big Mama, but I think… Read more »
love it!!!
this is the only new show of the 2015 season that I watched and enjoyed. it is not a reality show, a talent show, a gruesome 1hour drama. it follows all the rules of an old fashioned sit com but this time with a very sexy and engaging cast. it touches on issues that only this show can. Its kinda of a black everyone loves raymond in structure, but this more upper class and west coast. Everyone is perfectly cast in their roles. I wanted to dislike the daughter of Diana Ross, but it turns out that traci is so… Read more »
I like the show. If Eubanks doesn’t like the show then don’t watch it.
Wait. Blackish gets renewed, but The Following doesn’t. What’s wrong with this picture. Have the viewing public gone stupid.
As a southern white republican I absolutely love this show. Since it is a family of black people it can poke fun in ways at black people and white people that many shows cannot get away with. There are many times that this show says things we are all thinking but are not saying because we do not be labeled as racist, both on the black side and white side. I really really hope that this show is not canceled. I think this show is funny and also shows how we are all the same no matter what color we… Read more »
