TV show description:
This family sitcom revolves around an African-American family who are living the American dream — but that may be too much of a good thing for the family’s dad.
Andre ‘Dre’ Johnson (Anthony Anderson) considers himself the family patriarch. When he looks at his life, he sees a beautiful wife and four kids living happily in their colonial home in the suburbs. But when he looks a little closer, have the trappings of success brought too much assimilation for this black family? The world he sees has a much different lens than the one he would like his family to look through.
Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross) is an anesthesiologist and the bi-racial wife of Dre. He disagrees with some of her liberal viewpoints but they’re in agreement that they want to raise their kids in a better situation than what they had. Much to her husband’s wonderment, she believes their children can exist in a colorless society. She wants her husband to become the first black senior VP of his ad firm and she’s also looking forward to the salary increase that will follow.
At 15 years old, Zoey (Yara Shahidi) has everything going for her. She’s pretty, popular and super smart. However, she is dripping in privilege and unearned entitlement. Her idea of success is rooted in material things, rather than hard work.
Dre’s son is Andre Jr. (Marcus Scribner) but he asks to be called “Andy.” He also announces that, like his schoolmates, he wants a bar mitzvah for his 13th birthday. Trouble is, their family isn’t Jewish. When the boy says he wants to play for his school’s field hockey team instead of basketball, Dre wonders if he’d prefer Andre play basketball instead.
Diane (Marsai Martin) and Jack (Miles Brown) are the six-year-old twins. Jack is more of the sensitive type and idolizes his dad. Diane is gifted and talented and she thinks she has all the answers.
Dre’s father (Laurence Fishburne) is affectionately referred to as “Pops.” With an affinity for velour tracksuits and going to the racetrack, Pops can be a curmudgeon and takes every opportunity to offer his opinion on family issues.
Episode #176 — Homegoing
As Pops and Ruby prepare to move away, Dre and Bow consider if they should make a big life change as well. Grappling with this idea at work, Dre receives some unexpected advice from Simone Biles, who tells him to follow his heart. The Johnsons prepare for their goodbyes in the series finale.
First aired: April 19, 2022.
What do you think? Do you like the Black-ish TV show? Do you think it should have ended or been renewed for a ninth season?
Love Blackish!! I identify with something in each one of the cast. I appreciate the theme presented each week.
This show is one of our family’s absolute favorite shows! We look forward to it every season!
This show is as funny as it is real. This show is just beginning. We love everyone on this show. The actors give it their all! Something special happens every time it comes on. I do hope they do not cancel!
It is an Emmy award winning and fun show!
As I read the very negative comments about Blackish and the reasons why those that are opposed to its airing again this season. I thought could it be that these individuals are uncomfortable with an Black family with education voicing their opinions about real issues that are relative to where we are in society today. There is nothing wrong with being enlightened to the facts. Many folks that asked for this program to be cancelled are people uncomfortable with the Truth. I believe that many of you were not opposed to the Cosby Family because it didn’t make you feel… Read more »
I hope and pray that ABC WILL NOT CANCEL Blackish. I have thoroughly enjoyed this program and look forward to seeing it again this season. Thank you
I love the show so much that I have been watching season 1 thru 4 over and over for three months! I can’t wait till season 5!!
This is one of my favorite shows because the cast is incredibly talented and the content is important–sorry white people whom I share skin color with and nothing more.
I cried on the May 8th episode….it is so real to life and all the feelings of my own experiences came rushing back to me. I love the show but must admit, I love it when it’s funny and not taking itself so seriously. I watch TV to escape for an hour not to deal with sad moments of real life. I appreciate the realness but not exactly happy with it.
I love the show and recently became a fan of the show. When I went to search for the show for two weeks, I was lost. Since watching the show , I have learned sooo much about our history as African-Americans that I didn’t learn in school or at home. Please bring it back and don’t take it off the air please!! Please!!.
This show needs to be canceled. Again I tried watching it,, first 15 min, already putting the white people down. Said three times within the first 15 min, how he cant stand the white people. Good Lord if it was the other way around. Take this crap show off.
Stopped watching this junk. Blacks living high on the hog like White folks but one exception, the black-ish cast exploits the Black persecution complex.
Who wants to watch a political sitcom. This sitcom leaves me mad…and not laughing.
Was my favorite show and now I feel like it’s just encouraging a divide in America. This is not the time or place for this. My family will no longer be watching the show.
You lost me when you tried to make me feel guilty about slavery. I am a second generation American whose ancestors are from Eastern Europe. I refuse to feel “white guilt”; which Barriss finds hysterical; for something neither I or my ancestors had anything to do with. Even in Facebook, Blackish lost 15,000 likes and followers in the wake of that ridiculous “We Built This” faux musical. Too bad. The cast is talented. Hopefully they will all find new acting gigs when Blackish is cancelled. And it will be cancelled. Sooner than later I think
I think tonight show left out the fact that freed blacks at the time of slavery, also owned black slaves in the south. If you are going to tell a story be honest & tell the whole truth. Africans sold, other Africans tribes to the slave traders. We do not owe today blacks one thing. That is their ancestors story. There were whites slaves too. Slavery still goes on today all over the world. Just tell the true.
Please cancel this show. That’s all I’m going to say.
