Last week, CBS premiered their new Friday night cop series, Blue Bloods. This marks the return of Tom Selleck to CBS in a regular TV show. His last series for the network, Magnum PI, lasted for eight seasons. Will this one last as long or be quickly cancelled?
Blue Bloods revolves around the Reagans, a multi-generation family of New York City cops. The series stars Selleck, Bridget Moynahan, Donnie Wahlberg, Will Estes, Len Cariou, and Dylan Moore.
Last week, Blue Bloods debuted to a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 13.01 million total viewers. That was enough to be the most-watched show in its timeslot and for the whole night in both categories.

By historical comparison, that’s a significant improvement in the timeslot. Last season’s sixth season premiere of Numb3rs attracted just a 1.8 in the demo and 8.10 million viewers.
CBS is no doubt very pleased with this performance and, as long as these numbers hold up week after week, it seems like Blue Bloods will be around for quite awhile. Based on a breakdown of the ratings in 15 minute increments, almost all of the people who tuned in for the premiere stayed to watch the entire episode. That’s a good indication that most of them will be back for episode two.
What do you think? Did you tune in to see Blue Bloods? Is the show worth watching or should it be cancelled?

Please bring Blue Blood back! Not only are we fans of Tom Selleck, we also enjoy the dedication and devotion to family that it portrays. Sure, maybe there’s more excitement in the Reality Shows, or “will she or won’t she sleep with Will?” on the Good Wife, but we need to see more shows depicting families eating together and even (Gasp!) praying before their meal! Bring back “Blue Blood”!
Absolutely the BEST new show on TV. I love the integrity and morality in the show. Great acting. I look forward to the development of the characters in the future. It doesn’t matter what night it is on, my wife & I plan to watch & watch & watch & …. well, you get the picture.
Love, love, love the show!!!! One negative comment, give TOM SELLICK more to do.I think the entire cast is really good.Bring it back.
Love, love, love the show!!!! One negative comment, give TOM SELLICK more to do.I think the entire cast is really good.Bring it back.
My husband and I love Blue Bloods. It’s about time some decent shows came back to TV. it’s good to see a loving family with integrity and morality instead of sex and disrespectful actions and attitudes saturating the air waves on a nightly basis. Keep BB, The Dfndrs, NCIS’s going!!!!! Great job, CBS., Hawaii 5-0, The mentalist, and Bleep are great too. Jury is still out on The Good Wife. I hope you don’t mess up her marriage!
I also really like “Blue Bloods”. I think you should give “The Good Wife” another thought. Ridley Scott is and excutive director of this show with his brother Tony Scott. Ridley has always been an amazing director himself. We studied his films in college at Univ of Texas in Austin. “Alien” (the first film) nearly blew me away when I was in H.S. “Blade Runner” of course was also a new thing with so many sounds-colors-styles. It was also an incredible cast of people (also in Alien), including Harrison Ford. Ridley Scott is always great about how the cameras are… Read more »
I too really like “Blue Bloods”. I also think you guys should rethink-rewatch “The Good Wife”. I am a huge fan of Ridley Scott. Have been since his first few films nearly blew me away. I thought the acting and camera-work in both his movies “Alien” (the first film), and “Blade Runner were incredible movies when I was in college at Univ. of Texas in Austin, TX. I know Ridley Scott is “just” an executive producer, but I am sure he nearly hand-picks out the camera-men and lighting coordinators.
My husband and I love Blue Bloods. I enjoy all the actors- especially Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg. I certainly hope CBS keeps this show. Didn’t normally watch tv on Friday nights but this series is why we tune in each week. Keep up the good work!
BLUE BLOODS great series about time to have a different COP series, KEEP the show on TV.
It’s an interesting show, though with it’s flaws. It does carry an intriguing plot within the Reagan Family. Hope this shows continues.
It is so refreshing to see a show where the family members love and respect each other and actually have real values. It may not be what some view as realistic police work, but I love seeing people who are loyal to each other and good, honest, hard working, educated family members – they actually say grace before meals. Much better quality tv than I’ve seen in years. I’m a true fan and want to see this show continue!
I have watched the first few times because I am a fan of Tom Selleck. But now the supporting characters are developing and I am interested in each of them. Every episode is stronger. This show has depth and quality…hope it continues.
Probably the best new show on TV.Acting and writing are excellent. As an actor I put myself in the show as a would be character.I really hope this series lasts.
I like the show Blue Bloods. The Reagams are a family I can admire. Individuals, thinkers, doers, beautiful people. Within the framwork of the family each can grow at his/her speed. They feel the need to contribute to the well being of their often dangerous environment They have a code of conduct and basic loyalty to each other. They are not afraid to show love to each other. They honor their father by living by the family code. Those viewers who complain about the writers obviously have not experienced the Reagan kind of family. Too bad! Considering the absolute crap… Read more »
yeah mary i agree with you – there are a lot of cliches in the show and the police work does not seem realistic. still, it has so much star power (and i find bridget moynahan endlessly hot). maybe they can improve the writing and turn the show around somehow?
I’VE WATCHED THE SHOW FOR THE LAST FEW WEEKS AND FRANLY, I FIND THE REAGAN FAMILY VERY ANNOYING. THE SHOW IS FULL OF CLICHES. ON TOP OF THAT, THE DETECTIVE SON IS OFTEN WAY OUT OF LINE IN THE MANNER IN WHICH HE GOES AFTER SUSPECTS. THREATS, INTIMIDATION, “CONFESS OR I’LL KILL YOU” ATTITUDE. THE WHOLE SHOW SMACKS OF HYPOCRISY. TRUTH BE TOLD, I DON’T THINK THAT I WILL WATCH THE SHOW ANYMORE.
What a waste of talent, I love the cast, the concept of this show is great, but the writing just plain stinks. It causes the dialog to be strained, boring and unrealistic.
Ok, I know it’s doing good numbers for CBS in it’s Friday evening time slot. It’s not because it’s a good show…it’s just better than any other offering in that slot. Honestly, I’ll continue to watch the show….after I hit the mute button.
Love, love, love the show!!!! One negative cmment……not enough of TOM SELLICK.This character was written especially for him. He’s TERRIFIC!!!! The charecters are very believable. Keep it on. There’s enough garbage out there. For what It’s worth, I rearely watch network T.V. any more. This show is a welcome relief. I think it has the potential Magnem had. Give Tom more to do and say.
