What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the NBC television network, the Bluff City Law TV series stars Jimmy Smits, Caitlin McGee, Scott Shepherd, Barry Sloane, Michael Luwoye, MaameYaa Boafo, Stony Blyden, and Jayne Atkinson. Coming from a famous Memphis family that’s known for taking on injustice, a brilliant lawyer named Sydney Strait (McGee) used to work at her father Elijah’s celebrated law firm until their tumultuous relationship got in the way. After barely speaking to Elijah (Smits) for years, Sydney is suddenly thrust back into the family fold when her philanthropist mother passes away unexpectedly. In the wake of the loss of his wife and in hopes of reconnecting with the daughter he loves, Elijah asks Sydney to rejoin his Civil Rights firm and take on a chemical company whose product may cause cancer. Despite her lingering resentment and distrust, she agrees because she knows that working alongside her father is her best hope at changing the world — as long as they can find a way to get along. No sooner has Sydney returned than she stumbles on a secret that Elijah has been keeping from her that may change everything.

Telly’s Take
Will NBC cancel or renew Bluff City Law for season two? The ratings aren’t great and have been dropping lower and lower. A show that follows The Voice should be doing better. I think it will be cancelled. I’ll update this page with breaking developments. Subscribe for Bluff City Law cancellation or renewal alerts.
6/16/20 update: Bluff City Law has been cancelled by NBC so, there won’t be a second season.

What do you think? Were you hoping that the Bluff City Law would be renewed for a second season? Are you sorry that NBC has cancelled this TV show, instead?
Hoping this show is renewed
I very much enjoy Bluff City Law and will be very disappointed if it is not renewed. It’s smart, engaging and well acted. And, as opposed to some legal shows, they don’t always win, which is refreshing and much more realistic! Please renew!!
Please, please bring back Bluff City Law! One of the best shows with substance in awhile!
I really liked bluff city law and was hoping to see more episodes. Seems like every show I like gets cancelled
I certainly hope NBC opts to bring back BCL for season two! How can they leave the viewers hanging after that stunning end. Show wasn’t perfect – but loved the legal aspect and the complicated intertangled livesef the characters. Loved me some Syndey! The REAL PROBLEM… why did NBC put this show in the time slot competing with The Good Doctor. On another night… say Wednesday… it would havedominated!! BLC sold me… I was a faithful Good DR fan, but opted to watch BCL live and watch TGD later. Please NBC… be smart! Bring Bluff City Law back – and… Read more »
Finally a program to look forward to watching! The writers wrote exceptional story lines that embraced multiple emotions with each show. It would not serve NBC well to not renew. I’d be interested in knowing the ratings for the 50+ aged viewers who more than not watched more of the series than the 18-49 group. You CAN have a very successful program without the shock and awe delivered by the reality shows that seem the be the mainstay. A lot of eye candy coupled with a little imagination tempered and performed with indelible sophistication and professionalism. The Beverly Hillbillies weren’t… Read more »
I love bluff city law-please don’t cancel!
I agree please don’t cancel this. Love all of the actors and even a family can sit and watch this.
Why would the network do that? I actually like the show alot and I’ve always liked Jimmy Smits. But let’s renew Will and Grace AGAIN (yawn) or a show about an airplane lost in a time warp (or something) and give up on a show with an actual storyline (a gay guy impregnating a 40+ year old woman…not interesting). No offense but HELLO!?
We love Bluff City Law!! The writing is though provoking and the writers are not afraid of the tough issues. Very refreshing and there is a demographic who does NOT watch The Voice, Dancing show, or American Idol. Bring on season 2!!
We love this show!! The writing is thought provoking and the writers are not afraid to tackle issues head on! The underlying story is definitely more interesting than reality TV such as The Voice. There is a demographic not interested in reality TV!
Please do not cancel Bluff City Law!!! It is so entertaining!!
Please don’t cancel this show!!! I love Bluff City Law! I love the fact that it isn’t violent and it focuses on fixing the family issues and it has different types of cases!
I loved this show! Episodes seemed to be based on current headlines. Feel good law show. Hope it continues.
I love this show and watched it every week! Please tell me there will be a season 2!
Why is it that whenever a good non violent movie come out, you keep it on for only one season. Please don’t cancel. Give it another chance. I know I will be watching.
Please do not cancel Bluff city Law great show I’m a retired police officer really enjoy it it’s very entertaining it’s a nice show it’s interesting and entertaining and for a change there’s not a lot of disgusting language sex and violence in the shell very enjoyable thank you. Continue to bring the show back at least for the people that don’t want to watch the shows that are now on TV. I can watch the show with my family and not be embarrassed in front of my child. Thank you
