The (finally) judgment is in. NBC has officially cancelled Bluff City Law after only one season and 10 episodes.
The legal drama stars Caitlin McGee as Sydney Strait, a brilliant lawyer who joins her estranged father at his law firm after her mother passes away. The cast also includes Jimmy Smits, Scott Shepherd, Barry Sloane, Michael Luwoye, MaameYaa Boafo, Stony Blyden, and Jayne Atkinson.
The first season of Bluff City Law averaged a 0.56 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.66 million viewers. That makes Bluff City Law one of NBC‘s lower-rated series for the 2019-20 season.
The writing seemed to be on the wall when the network opted not to order any additional installments of the low-rated Monday night series beyond the initial 10 episode order. However, the network insisted that the show was still in the running for a 2020-21 renewal. The last episode aired on November 25, 2019.
Of NBC’s new crop of scripted series for 2019-20, only Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist was renewed for a second season. In addition to Bluff City Law, freshman series Indebted, Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector, Sunnyside, and Perfect Harmony have all been cancelled.
What do you think? Did you watch Bluff City Law on NBC? Would you have watched a second season of this drama series?
I LOVED Bluff City Law. Best new show in a long time. The network should have tried to move it to another night and they certainly should have given it more time. Please bring.g this show back! I am so sad.
I want it back
The best writing and story’s and what a great cast
Yes indeed, I was waiting for season 2. This is one of the best shows I have seen on television in ages.
This show was a pleasure to watch, with excellent acting and story lines. This is a huge mistake for cancelling the show, and a disgrace to the older generations who watched it and believed in it. Too many times at my age, I find that companies lean toward the younger generations, just to get their support and money. And that goes for all facets of life. I now firmly understand why my parents, both deceased, would always shake their heads at the younger choices. I commend all the actors and producers for this fabulous show, and wish them further success… Read more »
Yes, we DEFINETELY would have watched a season 2 of Bluff City Law! We are so bummed that it did not get picked up for a season 2. The characters were likable and the storylines were relevant. Each episode, brought knowledge and insight to struggles people go through. Some of them may be familiar, and/or some, you had not considered or experienced first hand. Extremely disappointed there will not be more episodes. 🙁 The actors were very good. They made you feel all the emotions…like you were experiencing it with them. NBC, you are making a mistake by not running… Read more »
Yes I would have watched. Jimmy Smits has no luck . Like his work.
Completely upset that NBC is not bringing back Bluff City Law. I really enjoyed that show. My husband and I recorded it and watched it every week.
This is such a great show. All the characters have such charisma. The stories are so fulfilling and make me feel good. Please don’t cancel this show. I really looked forward to watching it every week and most times more than once.
I really enjoyed this show, but they never gave it a chance. So much potential!!! I hate this.
I’m extremely sad about this news. We barely got to dive in to the lives of these rich, diverse characters. I feel that if this show had been on any network OTHER than NBC, it would have had a chance. But, they love to cancel promising shows after just one season.
I really enjoyed Bluff City Law and definitely would have watched another season! I don’t think only one season was enough time for the new show to gain traction. It should have at least gotten another chance.
Sad, another diverse, intelligent show cancelled especially now when our country is going through COVID-19 & #BLM. I hope another network or Netflix picks up this series
I am very sad that Bluff City was cancelled. I loved this show.
I am truly disappointed this show will not be renewed. It was a very enjoyable one that was true to life unlike the ridiculous sitcoms out there now with no substance at all. Shame on you NBC.
Our family and friends LOVED BCL. Huge huge mistake NBC.
