Britannia will not be returning for a fourth season. The historical fiction drama, which aired on Sky in the UK and EPIX (now MGM+) in the United States, has been cancelled, leaving a significant cliffhanger unresolved, per Deadline.
Starring Kelly Reilly, David Morrissey, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Liana Cornell, Gershwyn Eustache Jnr, Mackenzie Crook, Barry Ward, Stanley Weber, Joe Armstrong, Fortunato Cerlino, Callie Cooke, Aaron Pierre, Eleanor Worthington-Cox, Zoë Wanamaker, Ian McDiarmid, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Hugo Speer, Daniel Caltagirone, Zaqi Ismail, and Annabel Schol, the Britannia series is set in the year 43 AD as the Romans invade Britain.
Season three sees a radical transformation in Cait’s (Worthington-Cox) journey as the Chosen One with a decision that ties her to the future of her war-torn people and their ravaged land. Aulus (Morrissey) comes under pressure from a new and dark force – otherwise known as his wife (Okonedo), while Amena (Scholey) finds herself in a lethal ménage à trois with both of them. Divis (Kaas) gets a new job which he despises, and Veran goes to the underworld and sees the future.
The series has ended with its 27th episode. The story ends with a cliffhanger in which Cait (Cox) is betrayed by her mentor, who has wed General Aulus.
The series was created by Jez Butterworth, his brother Tom Butterworth, and James Richardson.
What do you think? Are you disappointed by the cancellation? Did you want a fourth season of this drama series?
I’m getting the sense it’s time to stop paying for streaming services if they’re going to continue to carry these incomplete series. They all want us to pay so we can “binge watch” these shows and once we do, we get strung along for a season or two and then abruptly we’re left hanging with an incomplete story. That’s a pretty good example of the word “ripoff” in my book. But instead of getting all hot and bothered about it, I think maybe it’s a sign we all ought to stop watching so much TV and spend our time and… Read more »
So just finished watching Season 2 and Im loving the show. Amazon didnt have season 3 but then I found it if I subscribe to MGM. I looked through the episodes and last one seemed like.. it wasnt the end? So searched for season 4 only to find the shows been canceled… I feel like I wasted my time the last week binge watching season 1 and 2. What a great show, so dumb they canceled, and to think I almost paid for MGM subscription. FML.
Dammit! They are heartless to leave us hanging over a cliff like this! FINISH THE SERIES!!!
Finish it!!
Extremely. And it’s not surprised at all because all of the really interesting, exciting and original programmes are always cancelled, either being rushed to a disappointing finish or leaving us with an unfinished tale.
Yeah we should have a forth and so on. Ended but like this having us hanging like that. Why start a series if not going to finish it.
I’m absolutely ticked off! Why would you cancel such a good show!!! Ugh grrrr
Ya that sucks!
Why can’t Amazon studios pick this up and continue with the production of season four? I know dozens of people who love this series and want to see at least a partial season four to resolve the cliffhanger at the end of season three!!!
Very disappointed that they are not bringing back the show to close out the episode
Come on someone pick this series up …Netflix..Mgm.?
Nothing left for the series… they reconciled it with history.
****! Someone pick up this show for next season! Best thing on television!
Extremely disappointed that it will not properly close out the series!! What idiot made this choice? I know it had good ratings!!
Makes no sense to cancel this. The figures were fine and it was a great show. It’s actually the usual failure if vision and taste. It should at least have a final TV movie.
Same kind if deal as Pennyworth. If it’s not a soap the execs don’t get it
