Charmed, which recently celebrated a milestone as being the longest-running show featuring all female leads, may be headed for a big finish. Last year, it looked like the WB’s long-running show about beautiful witches was going to be cancelled but the series was given a new season order at the last minute. This year, with the contracts of the female leads (Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs, Rose McGowan and Kaley Cuoco) and executive producer Brad Kern expiring, it looks doubtful there will be a ninth season.
In a recent interview with TV Guide, Kern said, “Nobody at WB will commit one way or the other. I’ve heard nothing about it. As far as I’m concerned, this is it. Last year the show was held in limbo, but fortunately ‘the governor called’ and we got another year. I wasn’t able to craft a season or series finale [then], so I did sort of a hybrid, which to me was disappointing creatively. ”
He continued, “This year, with no contract for the girls and no contract for me, the WB seems to be looking forward to looking for ‘the next generation’ of shows. We’re still an expensive show, and all those factors tell me that, here in the middle of January, I’m just pushing toward the series finale. It’s too late for them to say, ‘We want to find a way to make a ninth season’ — but it doesn’t mean there can’t be a spin-off.”
Kern went on to say that, in an ideal world, he would bring back many of the past cast members for an appearance. But, with budgetary issues having taken center stage this year (hence the reduced appearances of Brian Krause’s Leo character), it seems doubtful that you’ll see the return of Shannon Doherty’s Prue or Julian McMahon’s Cole.
Still, Kern has other magical surprises in store for fans saying, “The huge problem I have to deal with this year is the budget cutback. I’m trying to save money each episode so I can afford to bring back as many of the regular cast members as possible. Who that will be, I don’t know, but my plan is to have the equivalent of a ‘family reunion’ including as many people as I can afford.” In addition, Kern didn’t rule out the possibility of creatively used flashbacks. 
Why end such a wonderful show????? I watch it everytime it comes on tv. i watch it on tnt at 8,9 in the mornings and in the evening at 5 and 6 and on sundays I watch it on wb11 at 8:00P.m I am mad i loved that show. it was the best one yet. I liked it better then 7th heaven that is bad. I wish you wouldnt have ended it so soon it was beginning to get great.I hope you all give them another chance they deserve it. thanks sarah
i have been a fan since the show began. my husband and i are retired and this show has given more enjoyment than you can imagine. we can not afford to go out for our intertaiment so tv is abig part of our lives. i just watched the final show. knowing that there will be no more new charmed showes to look forward to each week is heart breaking. this wonderful show has put a lot of magic in my life for eight wonderfull years. now that has all been taken away. the actor and actress of charmed will forever… Read more »
if they take this show off the air like this after it just won some award or something for longest running show with female leads there will be a lot of pissed people! if your going to cancel a show like this give warning! let people know! don’t spring it on them in the second to last episode that this is the last time you will see these people. you have something good! why ruin it??? there are all these new s**tty shows on tv now that are horrible!!!! and WB is making a lot of them. why waste $$… Read more »
I am sick at the thought of Charmed being taken off the air. I don’t watch much TV, but Charmed I watch faithfully. This includes all the reruns. I was native to assume the show could continue like “Law and Order” has for 14-15 seasons. I don’t understand why an effort wasn’t made to find the money to continue “Charmed”. I adore all the characters and desperately wish them to continue. i’ just wanted to say that if charmed is taken off the air i will be serverly mad and then i’ll have to deal with all my house hold family members being mad too because they all love the show charmed just as much as i do (ALOT). and the people that take it off the air there will be alot of charmed fans that will be mad at you even if you don’t know them and they don’t know you so be prepared to have alot of people mad at you…………….
this is unreal. I have watched this show since day one, never missed an episode. my daughter even likes to watch. you need to keep the show going. you got us hooked, is wyatt going to be good or evil? are they going to save leo or are you going to kill him off? is pheobe going to have a daughter? WHAT!!!
I cant believe this show is coming to an end…..I think I am going to cry! I have watched every show and I still can’t get enough. You would figure if this has been the longest running show to feature women, that it would stick around longer. It is a shame that it is being canceled. TV will never be the same again. On another note, if Billie and Christy are supposed to be the ultimate power and Wyatt was born the most powerful of good magic then why dont they tap into his magic to get rid of Christy?… Read more »
I agree with everyone. KEEP CHARMED GOING. DON’T END IT. All of us wants to see what happens down the road with Wyatt and Chris, and what powers they will have. We want to see what becomes of everyone. We want Leo to come back. We want to see another generation of Halliwells. THERE HAS TO BE A WAY TO KEEP CHARMED GOING AND FOR WB TO COME UP WITH THE MONEY THEY NEED TO KEEP THE SHOW GOING.

YOU JUST DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE DOING CANCELLING THIS SHOW. SO MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS: HOW DOES LEO COME BACK? WILL PHOEBE HAVE HER DAUGHTER & BY WHO? WILL PAIGE & HENRY MAKE IT? I cant believe this is it. They are taking off charmed. so many people are going to hurt and mad. I hope the wb knows what it is doing. because keep taking off shows that ppl love they will not want to get caught up in the new ones with the fear of them being takin off too. I love the charmed ones and all the people who made it what it is today. I really can’t believe that WB is going to cancel Charmed. I love this show and my daughter and I watch it every week. We have all the season that have been released on DVD so far. We are still upset with them taking Leo (Brian Krause) of the show. I am so tired of liking a show and have that taking out suddenly like it has been done in the past. I really dont want charmed to end. i am in love with the show and am hooked! i am a huge fan and i have got my best friend into it too, and i think there deffo should be another series. please bring charmed back.
Hi i’m angela and i’ve been watching charmed scince the middle of season 1, and charmed is my insperation i have on dvd season 1,2,3 and 4 and i’m getting the rest but i’m 13 and i still watch charmed it will never change i thought when i was 8. But now it’s all oging 2 change tear, tear sorry! gotta go just think about that!
If there was to be the finale at least bring back prue as paige has not met older sister even if it means cutting out some of the others coming back. A reunion of all four sisters in one episode battling the demons by bringing on a new source is what fans would like to see. Bring back prue would be more successfull than bringing back cole.
yes it is very sad to see that the show is ending. if i could i would email to the powers that be and ask for them to do a spin of with piper’s boys and phoebe’s little girl.
