Angels Memorial is closing its doors. CBS has cancelled its Code Black TV show after three seasons. Creator and showrunner Michael Seitzman has already confirmed the Code Black cancellation. Although the production utilized the extraordinary measures of amputating some original series regulars (Raza Jaffrey and Bonnie Somerville) and grafting on a big name (Rob Lowe), the patient eventually succumbed to acute ratings anemia.
A CBS medical drama, Code Black stars Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Lowe. The story unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — home of the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The high patient volume dwarfs the resources available to the exceptional staff — creating a condition known as Code Black.
According to Seitzman despite the cancellation, the third season should continue to air in its regular timeslot. Because he expected the there would be no season four, it seems the team wrote the season three finale to serve as a series finale. Check out what he has to say, below.
Code Black: A Look at the Ratings
The third season of Code Black, which just kicked off on April 25th, is averaging a 0.71 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.448 million viewers. Compared to season two, that’s down by about 26% and 9%, respectively.
Of the 27 scripted CBS TV shows we’ve been tracking during the regular 2017-18 television season, Code Black ranks 23rd in the demo. That number only rises to 21st, when we sort by average total audience. In other words, the cancellation makes business sense.
EP Michael Seitzman Confirms Code Black Has Been Cancelled by CBS
Making sure to thank the fans, Seitzman, whose Quantico on ABC also fell prey to the Television Vulture, announced Code Black will not return for season four. Check out what he has to say about the remaining episodes and anticipating the need for a Code Back TV series finale.

What do you think? Are you a fan of the Code Black TV series? If it were up to you, would it be cancelled or renewed for season four on CBS? Sound off in the comments.
This is why CBS has a difficult time. They turn their back on a winner by under promoting and forgetting the most important thing which is having a base of dedicated people TO BUILD ON, people not wanting to be anywhere else but CBS. Code Black brought me back. Now what? More trash talk and agenda based BS?
I can’t believe this show has been cancelled, what is wrong with these stations.
My daughter and I love the show. We wait all week to watch on wednesday night or when necessary on DVR. We have fallen in love with the characters and feel as if we will be loosing friends. Please reconsider cancelling the show.
Please reconsider cancelling this great television show! By far the best series on television today. Please do not cancel!!!
Code Black is one of my favorite shows don’t cancel it you already took Roseanne off I’m going to have to find a new network to watch
I love Code Black and am extremely upset and dismayed it is being cancelled. The cast is a joy to watch and I think they are great in their respective roles. I particularly like the role Rob Lowe plays. It is sad to see a good program cancelled and other programs which are insulting to your integrity are allowed to continue, especially the so-called reality programs. There have been many quality shows cancelled because the “ratings” dictate their demise.
I can’t believe you are canceling this show! One of the best on TV! Great acting for a change instead of the stupid drivel called reality tv. No wonder the major networks are losing subscribers.
Code Black is a great show. I will miss it.
I looked forward to this show. Its one of the best shows on TV. The acting and plots are so good it just keeps me wanting more. Please don’t cancel it. I really hope another station picks it up.
Good writing, good acting, realistic. CBS is making a huge mistake.
Please keep Code Black! It is amazing show.
I look forward to Code Black every week. Both of my two favorite shows have been cancelled (Superior Donuts)
My family loves Code Black. Even my son-in-law says it brings a tear to his eye every week (which is not easy.) Cannot believe it is cancelled and you are bringing back Magnum PI? Will not watch that, but will miss Code Black, and hope you reconsider.
Thank you.
I find that Code Black has always captured the true nature of medical personnel as they provide the best medical care at a break neck speed and high demanding service to the public. The show is thought provoking and keeps me wanting more. We see a side of the medical staff that is going on that the public may not see. Compassionate workers that want the best treatment for the public that they serve. Very few show capture my attention due to lake of reality or too much nonsense. This year, I have watched shows that should have stayed on… Read more »
Since I am a surgical technologist myself, I am able to identify quite well with this show. It is truly disheartening to see this show go off the air. I have never developed this type of emotional bond with characters on a television show before. Code Black is a realistic hospital drama that is dying before it’s time. So sad to see it go
